AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine prevented 232,000 deaths in VN: study

(Photo courtesy AstraZeneca Vietnam) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine is estimated to have prevented 232,766 deaths in Vietnam, an independent assessment of vaccine effectiveness showed. The analysis conducted by Airfinity , a health data firm, covers the period from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021 and shows that more than 72 million doses were delivered to Vietnam, making AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine one of the most used in the country. AstraZeneca’s vaccine was the first COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Ministry of Health, and the first to be supplied in large quantities to support Vietnam’s national vaccination campaign and pandemic response effort. AstraZeneca’s vaccine was the first COVID-19 vaccine approved by Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MoH). With more than 72 million doses delivered to Vietnam, AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine is one of the most used in the country. Nitin Kapoor, chairman and general director at AstraZeneca Vietnam and Asia Area Frontier Markets said, “This data reaffirms that vaccination is the fastest way to overcome the pandemic and that our vaccine is highly effective in preventing serious illness and death. Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai offers incense to commemorate Covid-19 victims. Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of District 11 Dao Thanh Long said that the event aimed at paying tribute and expressing deep respect to people, officers and soldiers who have died from the pandemic. During the Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of officers, soldiers and medical staff rushed into Covid-19 hit areas. A lot of doctors, soldiers and volunteers got infectious with SARS-CoV-2 and died of the disease leaving the loss to their families, friends and teammates. Vietnam reports 1,381 new COVID-19 cases on August 7

Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam logged an additional 1,381 COVID-19 cases on August 7, according to the Ministry of Health. The new infections brought the country’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 11,347,518. As many as 8,589 patients were declared to free from coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on the day, lifting the total number of recoveries to 9,973,122. Meanwhile, the death toll from the disease was kept at 43,094 as no fatality was reported on August 7, accounting for 0.4% of the total infections. Vietnam’s GDP growth set to expand by 7.5% in 2022: World Bank

Vietnam’s economic growth forecast at 7.5 percent in 2022: World Bank

(Photo: WB Vietnam) According to the latest economic update by World Bank (WB) for Vietnam, the country’s economy expanded 5.2 percent in Q4 of 2021, and respectively 5.1 percent and 7.7 percent in Q1 and Q2 of 2022. Inflation is projected to average 3.8 percent over the year.
