VAT refunds sought for foreign shoppers at Phu Quoc airport Tu Hoang By Tu Hoang - The Saigon Times Daily HANOI – The Ministry of Finance has proposed the Government add Phu Quoc International Airport to the list of airports allowed to refund the value added tax (VAT) for goods foreign visitors and overseas Vietnamese buy when they leave Vietnam at that airport. The ministry made the proposal for the airport to open VAT refund counters following a suggestion by the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang as the airport handles international flights connecting the island with Russia, Singapore and Cambodia’s Siem Reap City since 2014. VietNamNet Bridge - Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province will likely welcome strong waves of international arrivals starting this November as many international flights to the holiday destination during the peak season have been planned. Vietnam Airlines (VNA) will launch five international weekly flights to Phu Quoc, with two from Singapore using A321 aircraft and three from Cambodia's Siem Reap using ATR72 aircraft, according to Airports Corporation of Vietnam. Meanwhile, a number of foreign carriers also have plans to scale up their frequencies of chartered flights to Phu Quoc. Russia's travel firm Pegas Touristik will organize 30 chartered flights a month to the island from November, with 186 flights in total over a period of nearly five months, bringing tourists from Moscow.
