Vietnam and Indonesia have expressed a desire to prevent further maritime spats. Vietnam PM hails ASEAN-US maritime cooperation
Leaders of the U.S. and the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended the official working sessions of the ASEAN-US Special Summit on May 13 (Saturday morning Hanoi time). During the summit, the U.S. announced a series of new initiatives, including a $60 million package to expand maritime cooperation, which will entail helping ASEAN countries counter illegal fishing and deploying U.S. Coast Guard personnel to the Indo-Pacific to support maritime training. The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden says the initiative aims to "promote a free and open Indo-Pacific." Samsung Vietnam completes construction of new R&D Centre

To show the determination to ensure safety and complete the work on schedule, a safety oath ceremony was held. Starting in March 2020, the construction has completed 70 per cent of the workload, thereby ensuring its schedule so that the new centre can be completed by the end of this year as committed to the Viet Nam Government. In October 2020, the foundation construction was completed. In April 2021, the work completed 30 per cent of the plan and started construction of the floating structure. By September 2021, 50 per cent of the work has been completed. On May 7, Vietnam commemorates Lord Buddha’s 2564th birthday in Quan Su Pagoda, Hanoi. This year, there is no mass celebration during the event due to COVID-19. The ceremony was simplified, but still grave. The message of the ceremony mentioned the global crisis during COVID-19 pandemic…and said ‘’humankind must wake up, must act kindly, also study about cultural living and sense of consensus in society’’. In early morning, Buddhist dignitaries and followers attend a ceremony…held by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. Everyone wears facemasks and strictly follows safety rules.
