Half of the lifebuoys installed by a volunteer group on bridges across the Red River in Hanoi have disappeared just four days after their launch. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh’s volunteer group had installed more than 100 lifebuoys on the Red-River-spanning bridges from May 6 to 15. The team had intended to equip a total of 400 lifebuoys on those bridges in ten northern Vietnamese provinces and cities as a tool to help people on the verge of drowning and facilitate rescue efforts. However, about 50 percent of the lifebuoys already installed on the Nhat Tan, Chuong Duong, and Vinh Tuy Bridges were nowhere to be seen as of Thursday morning as observed by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper correspondents. “We had expected this to happen, but it was faster than we thought,” said Khanh. “We plan to install new lifebuoys next week,” the man said, adding that the team will start with the Duong and Dong Tru Bridges and replace the stolen ones on the Nhat Tan and Chuong Duong Bridges. Policies targeting youth malnutrition would save 230,000 children in Vietnam annually: UNICEF
Including examinations of and treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children in a revision of Vietnam’s Law on Medical Examination and Treatment would save the lives of 230,000 children each year, according to Rana Flowers, UNICEF representative in Vietnam. In a press release on Wednesday, UNICEF provided evidence of increasingly widespread malnutrition in children around the globe, including in Vietnam. Over 230,000 Vietnamese children under five years old suffer from SAM each year, according to a 2009 national nutrition survey. The most visible and lethal type of malnutrition is wasting and severe wasting – conditions where an individual weighs far below what is healthy for their height, resulting in weakened immune systems and potentially ending in death, UNICEF warned. Globally, at least 13.6 million children under five years old suffer from severe wasting, causing one out of every five deaths in this age group, the agency said. C.P. Vietnam supplies food for SEA Games’ volunteers

Vietnam's Hanoi branch, vice chairman of the company Sakchai Chatchaisophon handed over tonnes of food to Nguyen Duc Tien, member of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union in Hanoi, and Ngo Van Thien, standing vice chairman of the Hanoi's Vietnam Youth Union. This food was made by C.P. Vietnam and includes 3.4 tonnes of processed chicken for meals of the SEA Games 31's volunteers, adding a variety of dishes to the menus of volunteers. Troops and youths join sea protection camp
The event was part of the activities to mark the 47th founding anniversary of the municipal border guard command (May 7, 1975 -2022) and welcome Youth Union congresses at all levels, towards the 11th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for the 2022-2027 tenure. The two-day program attracted the participation of more than 500 youths from local Youth Union organizations and schools and troops from the municipal border guard command, the Ho Chi Minh City Command, Ho Chi Minh City’s Public Security Department, Division 5 of Military Region 7, and Division 9 of Army Corps 4, among others. During the event, participating youths and troops visited and presented gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers, offered incense in commemoration of fallen soldiers, and visited policy households.
