Vietnam makes unremitting efforts to end violence against women and children

Millions of children, including those in Vietnam, are victims of physical, sexual, and emotional violence in families, schools, and the internet. The Vietnamese Government has been making unremitting efforts to end violence against women and children over the past years, paying special attention to the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on people. Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) Nguyen Thi Ha made the statement at the launching ceremony for the Blue Heart Campaign 2022 held in Hanoi on July 5. Themed “No tolerance to violence against children and women”, the campaign calls on people to take action in response to violence against children and women. Workers hope for allowance increase amid price surge

Do Thi Thu Hoai, an employee in Phu Tho province, said: “I have been working at this company here for five years, but the allowances have remained the same for me. “I see that several other companies provide an amount for accommodation support, but here we don’t receive any.” Each month, she receives her base salary of VND4.4 million (US$188), alongside the allowances of VND300,000 for diligent attendance, VBD150,000 for fuel charges, and VND30,000 for female employees. There was an allowance for employees with children of VND100,000 (US$4.30) per month, but this no longer exists, she said. Covid-19 caseload rises to over 10.75 million in Vietnam

Rental assistance package for workers disbursed at snail’s pace

The government in late March issued a decision to grant a financial support package of VND6.6 trillion ($287.4 million) to help migrant workers pay rent for up to three months. The package is to be given to 3.4 million people by mid-August. As approved by the government, each worker will receive VND500,000-1 million per month over no more than three months. Two groups of beneficiaries are those who have labor contracts and have contributed to social insurance premiums via their salaries; and those that are currently working at industrial parks, export-processing zones and economic zones in 24 cities and provinces: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc, and Bac Ninh in the north, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Binh Dinh in the central region, and Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Long An, Tien Giang, Can Tho, Ca Mau, An Giang and Kien Giang in the south.
