(VOVworld) - The European Union (EU) and Cuba held this their first high-level meeting on Human Rights in Brussels on Thursday. According to the Xinhua news agency, the EU was represented by Special Representative on Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis, while Pedro Nunez Mosquera, Director General of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented the Cuban government. The meeting focused on ways to conduct a dialogue on human rights- goal, principles, methodology and formalities. The two sides agreed that the purpose of the dialogue is to raise the awareness of both sides on human rights, share experience, implement human rights, and seek bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Discussion topics included gender equality, violence against women, children rights, health care, training, education, freedom of speech, immigration, and legislation. National broadcaster VTV has closed a contract to acquire the exclusive TV rights of the upcoming 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup from Dentsu Alpha, the station announced Tuesday. Under the contract, VTV is authorized to broadcast the AFF Cup within the territory of Vietnam, and will be the producer of the matches taking place in the country in case Vietnam advances into the semifinal and final games of the championship. The 2012 AFF Cup will take place from November 24 to December 22 in Thailand and Malaysia, with the two-leg tie knockout stage held in the countries winning tickets to that level. VTV said other local broadcasters can use it signal for free, under the condition that they keep the entire program as produced by VTV, including ads, commentary, and the match content. VTV will not restrict any coverage of the UEFA Euro 2012 football tournament in the print media, confirmed Do Thi Lan Huong, director of VTV’s Center of TV Advertisement and Services (TVAD). “The prohibition only targets the Euro 2012 telecast on the television, Internet, mobile, and IPTV systems,” Huong told Tuoi Tre. Earlier on Tuesday, Huong held a press briefing to announce VTV’s acquisition of the TV rights in which she said that Internet, mobile, and IPTV systems are not allowed to broadcast Euro-related coverage, while newswires are also prohibited from sharing video clips featuring Euro games and goals without a TV rights sharing agreement from VTV.
