VietNamNet Bridge - A recent report by Cushman & Wakefield says that Vietnam’s largest island of Phu Quoc (Kien Giang province) and the central city of Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province) will be the top choices of foreign investors, as they are expected to be tourist paradises of Vietnam in the near future. According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Kien Giang, the province now has 243 tourism projects, including up to 189 projects in Phu Quoc, with a total area of 6,804 hectares. In 2014, two big projects in Phu Quoc were put into operation, the 5-star Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort & Spa and Salinda Premium Resort & Spa. Many other projects have also kicked off there, including 5-star hotel Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc of BIM Group, 4-star hotel Novotel Phu Quoc Resort of CEO Group and Sunset Sanato Premium of Chin Chin Nui Company. The Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved adjustments to the general plan through 2030 for the development of Phu Quoc island district in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang. Under the modified plan, the tourism, service and entertainment complex, including casinos, will be moved from Da Chong beach in Bai Thom commune, to Bai Dai beach in Ganh Dau commune. The new plan also adds a cable car line from An Thoi town to Hon Thom Island in Hon Thom commune and a tourism and entertainment area together with a golf course across 2,090 hectares at Dong Cay Sao and the area to the north of Cuu Can River in Cua Can commune. In addition, 142ha of agricultural land to the north of Vung Bau canal will be turned in to a resort and sports area while the originally-planned golf course at the Cua Can area will be converted into an eco-tourism area. Bui Ngoc Suong, a former chairman of the Kien Giang Province People's Committee and now chairman of the Viet Nam Tourism Property Association, said Phu Quoc has seen big changes since a master plan for the development of the island was approved by the Government in 2004, making it more attractive to tourists and investors from around the world. CUU LONG DELTA (VNS)— Authorities in Kien Giang province are continuing to seek developers for a planned casino on Phu Quoc Island. A dozen or so foreign investors have come, studied the conditions for the project's development and operations, and left. Since the project plan was revealed in 2007, 11 investors have visited Phu Quoc Island for registring investment applications or providing investment consultancy to casino investors, officials of the Kien Giang Department of Planning and Investment told the media after a meeting between the Kien Giang People's Committee and relevant Government agencies last Friday. Eight of the prospective investors were from the US and the remaining three from Canada, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
