Viet Nam News Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc speaks to Reuters News Agency about how Việt Nam benefits from and contributes to international exchange at multilateral forums on the occasion of the G7 outreach meeting in Quebec City, Canada. Prime Minister Trudeau has invited you to attend the G7 Summit in Canada this June. One of the themes there is climate change, oceans and clean energy. Since the international investment community sees Việt Nam as one of the best places for growth in terms of renewables, can you tell us how Việt Nam aims to enable and support the development of and investment in clean energy and renewables? For example, Việt Nam has large rare earth reserves. Could those be used to manufacture batteries that would back up solar energy production in Việt Nam, and does Việt Nam therefore have a plan to explore and extract these rare earth reserves? Việt Nam is blessed with immense potential for clean … [Read more...] about PM discusses renewable energy in Việt Nam ahead of G7

Vietnam is well positioned to strongly develop renewable energy and gradually reduce the use of fossil fuels, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc told Reuters in a recent interview ahead of his participation in the expanded G7 summit in Canada. PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Photo: VTV The potential capacity of Vietnam’s wind energy is estimated at 500 – 1000 kWh/m2 per year, and its annual average hours of sunshine ranges from 2500 – 3000 at the average temperature above 21 Celsius degree. According to the report released by the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ) in June 2017, technical potentials for wind and solar energy in Vietnam are estimated at 215,000 MW and 340,000MW, respectively. Furthermore, as a major producer of agricultural products, Vietnam is also rich in biomass. PM Phuc said Vietnam has been implementing the Strategy of Renewable Energy Development to 2030 with vision until 2050. Accordingly, the country engages all social … [Read more...] about Vietnam well positioned to develop renewable energy, says PM
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has highlighted Vietnam’s position for clean renewable development, affirming the country is well positioned to strongly develop renewable energy and gradually reduce the use of fossil fuels. VietNamNet Bridge - Considered a country with great potential for solar and wind power, Vietnam continues to be one of the 12 ‘hotspots’ in the globe for coal-fired power development. Vietnam has great potentials to develop clean energy The global coal-fired power plant monitoring system’s updates on March 22 showed that the indicators in thermal power capacity, including the planning, construction and completion phases, continued declining significantly in 2017. It is expected that by 2022, the number of old plants to be shut down would be higher than the number of plants to become operational. This will be the beginning of the period of coal-fired power development decline. In India, the renewable power price has decreased by 50 percent in the last two years because of higher capacity. Because of financing problems, there is no electricity sale contract for 16 GW of coal-fired power, while 17 GW has been frozen at construction sites. The number of renewable energy projects in Vietnam has been rising rapidly over the last 10 months, according to a report released on Monday last week by a Vietnamese finance and business information corporation. Nine projects to generate and distribute electricity from renewable sources were registered in Vietnam each month on average during the period after the Vietnamese government increased the price of solar energy to 9.35 cent/kWh (VND2094/kWh) last June, according to the “Vietnam Renewable Energy Report 2018” report by StoxPlus. The report says there are 245 renewable energy projects in Vietnam right now, including solar and wind energy. In theory, once all 245 projects go into operation, their energy output could amount to 23.2 GW, about 10 times more than the goal of 2.65 GW for 2020 set by state-owned the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) back in 2011. However, only 19 percent of registered projects have reached the construction stage and just 8 percent are … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s green energy projects sprouting up in slow motion: report
