The government has launched one of the world's most ambitious vaccine programmes, aiming to innoculate 300 million of the 1.3 billion population by July. In the first two days of the drive, which started Saturday, the government said 224,000 of 300,000 planned vaccinations were carried out. In the capital New Delhi, only 53 percent of people came forward for jabs, according to a health official. "These are initial days and we understand people are waiting to see how the procedure pans out and how other vaccines fare," said Suneela Garg, a member of the coronavirus task force for the capital. "These numbers will go up as confidence is strengthened. And for that, we have to tackle misinformation." Northern region faces continued cold weather
Hanoi (VNA) - The National Centre for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast has reported that the temperature in the northern region will continue to decrease deeply over the coming days. Rain and cold air hit the northern region on January 18 with the lowest temperature of 8-10 degrees Celsius and 4-7 degrees Celsius in mountain areas. The lowest temperature was recorded early January 18 in Sa Pa, Lao Cai province, was 7 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees in Mau Son, Lang Sơn province, a slight increase from the previous day. Some other mountainous areas also experienced very low temperatures including Pha Din (Dien Bien) with 9.4 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 12 degrees and Dong Van (Ha Giang) 7.3 degrees. Two imported COVID-19 cases, 22 recoveries reported
Hanoi (VNA) – Two imported cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the past 24 hours to 6pm on January 18, raising the national count to 1,539, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. The two new cases are a 28-year-old Vietnamese man returning from the US, and a 59-year-old Costa Rican expert who arrived in Vietnam from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They tested positive for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 while being quarantined after arriving in Vietnam Also on January 18, 22 patients were given the all-clear, raising the number of recovered patients to 1,402. Routes leading to Long Thanh airport to be built
Hanoi (VNA) – The southern province of Dong Nai will build four routes linking localities with the area of Long Thanh International Airport whose construction began earlier this month. According to Nguyen Bon, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Transport, the construction of the roads, each stretching 45-60m, is expected to cost thousands of trillions of Vietnam dong. The routes include three directly leading to the airport, notably one running from the intersection with road DT 763 in Dinh Quan district, Dong Nai province, to National Highway 51 in Long Thanh district. The route, with investment of 2.3 trillion VND (99.2 million USD), has been regarded as a strategic road connecting Long Khanh city and such districts as Dinh Quan, Thong Nhat and Cam My with the airport.
