The bank spent VND116 million (about US$5,000) organizing games and buying in-house equipment, milk, nappies and food for around 110 children at Duc Quang Orphanage in Long Hoa Commune, Binh Dai District on December 7. WB willing to support Vietnam in climate change response and environmental protection
The World Bank (WB) had assessed hazardous solid waste management in Vietnam with the focus on urban areas. The WB is always willing to assist Vietnam in climate change response and environmental protection, Benoit Bosquet, the WB's regional director for sustainable development in East Asia and Pacific, said at a meeting with Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh in Hanoi on December 9. At the meeting, Benoit Bosquet praised the Vietnamese government for taking practical actions in climate change adaptation and environmental protection, adding that he believed the government and especially the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) will achieve the targets. Vietnam needs to raise the added value of the auto industry Many challenges The Vietnamese auto industry has developed rapidly in the past two years, with some products exported to Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Central America. Data from the Vietnam Register under the Ministry of Transport shows that the output of domestically manufactured and assembled vehicles was 258,733 units in 2017; 258,116 units in 2018 and 131,089 units in the first six months of 2019. However, the domestic automobile industry only operates in a low segment of the manufacturing chain, and depends on production assignments of global automobile groups.
