Foreign arrivals soar two months after border reopening
The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam has increased rapidly with 252,000 arrivals after the government reopened borders on March 15, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). Foreign visitors have returned to Da Nang city (central Vietnam) after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The past month saw travelers from traditional markets such as Europe, America, and the Republic of Korea (RoK) visit the country, along with from emerging markets like Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and India On April 29, Da Nang welcomed back the first 220 RoK visitors following the COVID-19 pandemic, while the ancient town of Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City received roughly 130 American travelers. Firms fined for Covid-19 spread in Bac Lieu
Two firms in the southern province of Bac Lieu have been fined for violating Covid-19 prevention rules which have led to a large virus outbreak in the area. The Gia Rai Town People's Committee on November 10 announced a fine of VND 20 million each to Tan Khoi Seafood Company and Chau Ba Thao Seafood Company for violating Covid-19 prevention rules which have caused the largest virus outbreak in the area so far. According to local authorities, the two companies had failed to conform to the government's regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control. They didn't carry out weekly Covid-19 testing for workers at their workplaces, which had caused a large-scale virus spread in the community. Vietnam State Securities Commission fines Hoang Anh Gia Lai for not reporting subsidiary’s stock trading
The State Securities Commission of Vietnam has fined local conglomerate Hoang Anh Gia Lai VND3 billion (US$129,400) fine for failing to report the trade of its subsidiary’s stocks. Aside from the fine, the State Securities Commission has suspended Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) JSC from securities trading for five months. Previous reports showed that Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agricultural JSC, a subsidiary of HAGL, had used its HNG stocks to guarantee bond issuance of a member company at a credit institution. Due to the overdue interest on this bond, the credit institution sold 20 million HNG stocks on January 7 and another 5.4 million on January 10 on HAGL’s securities account to recover the debt. However, HAGL did not report in advance the trade of these stocks in accordance with regulations. Hoa Phat Group and four commercial banks of Vietnam have been named in this year’s Forbes list of the world’s 2,000 largest companies (Global 2000).
