The AFD and EU have been actively supporting Vietnam in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Vietnam will receive financial aid from the EU and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to reduce the vulnerability to climate hazards in several towns in four northern and central provinces. The project is jointly co-financed with a EUR5 million (US$5.36 million) grant from the EU, a EUR123 million ($132 million) ODA loan from the AFD, and EUR 28 million ($30 million) from provincial budgets. Vietnam to build second facility of Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Thua Thien-Hue
The Vietnam Bear Rescue Center will be located at Bach Ma National Park in the Central province of Thua Thien-Hue. The new facility will be constructed on an area of 12.7 hectares including 12 houses and 12 semi-wild houses with a total non-refund donation of US$10.5 million from Animals Asia. According to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center, on May 27, the Forest Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , the Bach Ma National Park coordinated with the Animals Asia to organize a ceremony to publicize the project, which will be built in the administrative-service area of the Bach Ma National Park to serve over 300 species of bear in a semi-natural environment. TGS Green Hydrogen to develop new plant for nearly $850 million
The project is located in Ba Tri district. The construction of the green hydrogen plant is expected to start in late June and start a trial run in the first quarter of 2023. It marks the first green hydrogen project in Vietnam. The plant is expected to generate 24,000 tonnes of green hydrogen initially with an annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes of ammonia and 195,000 tonnes of oxygen. Later, the annual production capacity is expected to be 60,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, 375,000 tonnes of ammonia, and 490,000 tonnes of oxygen, which is more than double the capacity. The project is suitable for Vietnam’s policy to boost its clean energy usage and hence work on reducing its dependency on coal. FDI grow strongly in the first five months
Both additionally-registered and share purchasing of FDI rose strongly in the first five months According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency, Vietnam counted newly-registed FDI inflows of about $11.7 billion in the first five months, equivalent to 83.7 per cent of the previous year's total. Of this, $4.12 billion was poured into 578 newly-licensed projects, a slight decrease of 5.7 per cent in the number of projects, and a sharp reduction of 53.4 per cent in value. $5.61 billion was added to 395 projects currently underway, a rise of 45.4 per cent in value and 15.5 per cent in number. Overseas investors also poured almost $2 billion into just over 1,300 share purchase deals, an increase of 51.6 per cent over the same period last year. FDI disbursement climbed slightly by 7.8 per cent on-year to $7.7 billion. Archaeologists find traces of early humans in Bắc Kạn
Archaeologists have found various traces of early humans in a karst mountain cave in Quảng Khê Commune, in the northern province of Bắc Kạn. Archaeologists working at the site. Photos courtesy of the excavation team They have excavated Thẳm Un Cave and found that the cave’s foundation has been recently stirred up by cattle raised by locals. As a result, a cultural layer from an earlier time was revealed. A hole of 3sq.m was made to research the culture deposits. Archaeologists have found two cultural layers lying directly on top of one another, without any border layer. The earlier cultural layer lies lower, measures 0.6-0.65m thick and is fairly hard, formed by clay. The dark brown layer contains objects like stone tools together with animals’ teeth and snail shells. The cultural layer on top has a light grey colour and is made of crumbled soil.
