HCMC – A group of 25 people that entered Vietnam from the United States on April 6 have complained about their longer-than-expected quarantine period.
A representative of the group said on April 20 that they had completed their 14-day quarantine period in Hoa Binh Province and tested negative for Covid-19 twice in Vietnam and once in the United States before boarding the aircraft. Half of them have also been injected with two Covid-19 vaccine shots, Tuoi Tre Online newspaper reported.
Although they completed their quarantine period on April 20, they were asked to continue staying at the quarantine center. When they will be allowed to leave is unknown.
They stayed in rooms 306 to 310 and a person from room 301 tested positive for Covid-19 three days ago. The patient and four roommates were sent to a hospital for quarantine and treatment. The four tested negative for Covid-19 twice.
Another person from the group said he had been injected with two Covid-19 vaccine shots in the United States on February 5 and March 5 and tested negative for Covid-19 on April 19, after the patient in room 301 and four roommates were quarantined in a hospital.
He said he was a businessman and could not stay in Vietnam for long. They were asked to stay at the quarantine center longer without a valid reason.
He said he had no contact with the Covid-19 patient and the four roommates and was unhappy with the situation.
He added he had earlier registered for a quarantine center in Bac Ninh and paid the quarantine fees, but when he arrived at the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh, he was taken to a centralized quarantine center in Hoa Binh.
A representative of the quarantine center in Hoa Binh said on the first days of the quarantine period, these guests did morning exercises in the corridor, so all the people on the third floor of the center had to be quarantined for a longer period. However, they did not know when the quarantine period would end, but only that it must last for at least seven more days.
The exact end day of their quarantine period would be decided by the Hoa Binh steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control, the provincial Center for Disease Control and the provincial Department of Health.
According to the Hoa Binh Department of Health, these guests will be allowed to leave the quarantine center only after the four roommates of the Covid-19 patient test negative one more time, so they would have to be quarantined for another week.
However, under the Ministry of Health’s prevailing regulations, those in indirect contact with the Covid-19 patients do not have to stay at centralized quarantine centers. They can quarantine at home and do not need to quarantine if those in close contact with the Covid-19 patients test negative.
There are no regulations on quarantining people who were in indirect contact with Covid-19 patients for one more week, so the department later announced that it would discuss the case carefully and come up with solutions soon.
