Hanoi helps firms implement trade deals

Double digit export growth According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the export turnover of goods in June 2022 reached about US$1.517 billion, up 6.8 percent from May 2022 and 17.5 percent from June 2021. In the first half of this year, the commodity exports turnover reached US$8.3 billion, up 17.1 percent over the first half of 2021. Some key items with increased export turnover in this period included textile and garment, reaching US$1.22 billion, up 29.6 percent; computer components and peripherals, US$1.072 billion, up 20.2 percent. The total import turnover of goods hit US$3.675 billion in June and US$20.5 billion in the first six months of 2022, the latter of which is 24.5 percent higher than the same period in 2021. Vietnam, Qatar mutually waive visas for diplomatic, official passport holders

Vietnam and Qatar yesterday signed an agreement on visa exemption for their diplomatic and official passport holders. Hung Yen’s industrial parks attract nearly 323 million USD

There were a total of 15 new projects and 23 existing ones with added capital. In July alone, the figures were four and two, respectively, with their total value topping 49.6 million USD. The board said it has regularly supported investors in running their projects and business operations. To date, Hung Yen’s industrial parks house 434 operating projects, including 246 foreign-funded ones. Businesses in these parks are hiring some 76,000 employees. Pandemic pushed millions more into poverty in the Philippines: govt

MANILA -- About 2.3 million people in the Philippines were pushed into poverty between 2018 and 2021, largely due to the economic downturn caused by the pandemic, the statistics agency said on Monday. The number of people living in poverty in 2021 rose to a total of almost 20 million or 18.1% of the population from 16.7% in 2018, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said, overshooting the government's target of 15.5%-17.5%. Recently inaugurated President Ferdinand Marcos Jr aims to slash the poverty rate to 9% by the end of his single six-year term in 2028 - a target that remains achievable despite soaring inflation, according to Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan. He said the government's strategy will focus on fully reopening the economy, investing in human capital and social protection, and transforming production sectors to generate more and quality jobs and competitive products.
