HCM City (VNA) - HCM City’s Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee has expressed its appreciation of the southern city’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s active engagement in local COVID-19 response over the last year, Standing Vice Chairman of the committee Nguyen Thanh Trung told a conference on January 26. The conference was held by the Executive Board of the VFF committee to review Buddhist affairs last year and map out orientations for 2021. Trung said the VBS proved itself an important VFF member and became a symbol of national unity. Recognising its achievements in Buddhist affairs in 2020, he also praised the VBS for proactively supporting the city in combating COVID-19 and joining humanitarian, charitable, and social welfare programmes. Hanoi (VNA) – Reuters news agency on January 26 ran an article highlighting the opening of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) in Hanoi and the Political Report by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Thailand looks to export 6 million tonnes of rice this year
Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand is planning to ship 6 million tonnes of rice abroad in 2021, higher than the figure of 5.27 million tonnes last year. Of the targeted volume, white rice will make up 2 million tonnes, followed by Thai hom mali rice at 1.5 million tonnes and parboiled rice at 1.5 million tonnes. Meanwhile, Pathum Thani fragrant rice, provincial fragrant rice, and sticky rice would account for the remainder, said Keerati Rushchano, Director-General of the Foreign Trade Department under the Ministry of Commerce. Local media quoted Keerati as saying that Thailand's rice exports still have to brave a spate of challenges, including a strong baht, container shortage or relatively higher prices than those of competitors.
