Association works to enhance protection of children’s rights
Children at a kindergarten (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Association for the Protection of Children’s Rights (VACR) will hold its third congress in Hanoi on November 17-18. VACR Vice Chairman Do Duc Ngo said that the congress for the 2018-2023 tenure will review the implementation of the second congress’s resolution and the VACR’s development strategy, as well as discuss orientations and tasks for the association towards 2023. A meeting will also be held on November 17 to honour outstanding persons for their work in the protection of children’s rights. Ngo noted that since its foundation in 2008, the association has developed 18 provincial chapters and six centres with more than 50,000 members in 38 provinces and cities nationwide. Seminar launches activities for ASEAN women, children’s rights
Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – A consultation seminar to launch activities of the ASEAN Commission on Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) took place in Ho Chi Minh City on August 10. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights in the city, the event aimed to introduce relevant activities held in Vietnam and discuss joint work to protect women and children’s rights in the near future. Over the past decade, the committee has actively fulfilled set targets, contributing to promoting social welfare as well as women and children’s involvement in the region. Six press articles awarded prize on children rights, protection
The organizers including Press Association of Vietnam, Children Protection Association of Vietnam and Save the Children received 250 press works of 100 authors after they launched the prize in June 2017. The prize - the first of its kind - aims to improve quality and effectiveness of press in protecting children rights. All entries have depicted real life of children nowadays, said the organizers. In addition to writing about good examples in the society, good deed to help disadvantaged children, press works also reflected the society’s bad side on children including physical and spiritual violence, sexual and labor exploitation. Amongst 36 official prizes, four excellent works were given VND10 million each.
