The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on Monday said Con Dao Airport will be closed from April to December next year for an upgrade expected to increase its capacity from 400,000 to two million passengers a year in 2030. During the airport closure, tourists are still able to reach Con Dao Islands by helicopter from Vung Tau Town. There are currently two return helicopter rides a week every Friday and Sunday operated by the Southern Vietnam helicopter company. At a meeting Tuesday, Trinh Hang, director of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, said Con Dao has been witnessing a surge in tourist numbers in recent years and the airport closure will affect travel demand. He proposed the Ministry of Transport to consider increasing helicopter rides from the mainland to Con Dao and launching commercial flights by helicopter from Ho Chi Minh City. Seoul (VNA) – The third ASEAN - Korea Youth Summit is taking place in Seoul from August 9 to 12. The event, held by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the National Council of Youth Organisations of the Republic of Korea (RoK), is themed “ Carbon Neutrality and ASEAN-Korea Youth”. It gathers more than 100 young representatives of the RoK and 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) who attend both via videoconference and in person. Ministry proposes removing coal plants from energy plan
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has suggested the Government remove coal-fired plants with a capacity of 14,120 megawatts from Power Development Plan VIII (for 2021-30), which is currently being drafted. Illustrative image (Source: VNA) The move aims to achieve the target of net zero emissions by 2050, the ministry explained, adding that the plants were included in Power Development Plan VII (for 2011-20). Out of the 14,120 MW, 8,420 MW are from coal plants where State-owned enterprises have been assigned as the main investors, including Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group. The ministry also wants to reduce the ratio of coal-fired power sources from 25.7-31% in 2030 to around 10% in 2045. Two Vietnamese artists, who were accused of raping a British girl on Majorca island in Spain at the end of June, have returned to Vietnam after a local court returned their passports, Spanish media reported on Sunday. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ta Quang Dong confirmed their return on Monday morning. Spain’s Ultima Hora and Majorca Daily Bulletin newspapers reported on Sunday that the Provincial Court of Palma in Majorca decided to return the passports of two Vietnamese citizens accused of “sexually abusing a 17-year-old” on August 3. VEC proposes to expand HCMC-Long Thanh expressway in advance of 2025
The traffic volume on Ho Chi Minh City- Long Thanh- Dau Giay expressway increased by an average of 10 percent a year. According to the MoT, after the Ho Chi Minh City- Long Thanh- Dau Giay expressway was put into exploitation, the traffic volume passing through the expressway increased by an average of 10 percent a year. Currently, the flow of vehicles through the section from the An Phu intersection in Ho Chi Minh City to the Long Thanh intersection exceeds the road's capacity. Therefore, studying the investment plan to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway is necessary in accordance with the approved plan.
