At the talks between the two red cross societies (Photo: redcross.org.vn) Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) and its Canadian counterpart have agreed to support each other in humanitarian activities and look towards a long-term cooperation agreement in the time ahead. Vice President and Secretary General of the VRCS Nguyen Hai Anh told visiting President and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) Conrad Sauvé during their talks in Hanoi on May 21 that he is delighted at the fruitful cooperation between the two countries and the associations. Anh spoke highly of the Canadian government and the CRC for their support to Vietnam, both material and spiritual, and in international activities. SEA Games 31 confirms Vietnam’s dominance in vovinam
Vietnamese vovinam martial artist Le Thi Hien (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam on May 22 bagged one more gold medal in vovinam on the last competition day of the martial art, affirming its lead in the ongoing SEA Games 31 . The gold was obtained by Le Thi Hien in the women’s 60kg fighting, who won over Kesinee Tabtrai of Thailand 5-2 in the final. At this SEA Games, martial art ists of the host nation bagged six gold, six silver and two bronze medals in vovinam . Vietnam (in red) entered SEA Games 31 with lots of doubts, especially after the U23 team suffered a poor performance at the friendly Dubai Cup, where they ranked 9th out 10 teams. In the first game, Vietnam played Indonesia, a contender for the gold medal in this SEA Games. Indonesia’s defensive approach caused many difficulties for Vietnam in the first half. But in the second half, the overage players helped Vietnam break the tie, with goals from Nguyen Tien Linh and Do Hung Dung, before Le Van Do secured the 3-0 win for the hosts. Coach Park Hang-seo and his assistants celebrated when Hung Dung made it 2-0. This was a special game for Park since his opponent was fellow South Korean coach, Shin Tae-yong. Vietnam bag 205 gold medals at SEA Games
The hosts broke the record of 194 gold set by Indonesia in 1997. Thailand are second in the table with 92 golds and Indonesia third with 69. Vietnam's men's football team defended their gold medal with a 1-0 victory against Thailand. They kept the clean sheet throughout the Games. Indonesia won the men's football bronze by beating Malaysia in penalty shootout. Muay and diving each won Vietnam five gold medals on Sunday. Vietnam also won three boxing gold during the day in three women's events. Aerobic gymnastics brought two gold medals in mix pair and group events, and esports another two. Saudi Arabia bans citizens from traveling to Vietnam, 15 other countries
The 15 other countries where Saudi citizens are barred from traveling are India, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya, Armenia, Belarus, and Venezuela, reported Gulf News . The Saudi government's Directorate General of Passports issued the travel ban on Saturday after it observed a consistent increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in the previous weeks. On Saturday, the Saudi Ministry of Health announced 414 new infections of Covid, with the weekly figures seeing a five-fold increase compared to those seen through March and April. More than 9,100 people have died due to Covid in Saudi Arabia. Vietnam has been seeing major drops in Covid infections and hospitalizations. The country recorded 1,319 new local Covid-19 cases on Sunday, down 45 percent from a week earlier. Flights from South Korea to Vietnam’s tourist hotspots resume
On Friday, the carrier flew 40 passengers from Cam Ranh International Airport near Nha Trang beach town to South Korea's Incheon International Airport, marking the resumption of the service after over two years of Covid suspension. The same day, 160 passengers flying from Incheon also landed at Cam Ranh. Vietjet said there will be three weekly flights on the route on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, it also resumed the service between Phu Quoc Island and Seoul with five flights a week. It plans to restart its Hai Phong-Seoul service from Thursday with three weekly flights. South Korea will resume issuance of three-month visas and e-visas to Vietnamese tourists from June 1 after over two years of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
