(Photo: VNA) Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand won 92 gold medals to finish second at SEA Games 31 hosted by Vietnam from May 12-23, while the host topped the overall standings with a record haul of 205 golds. Although Thailand were a distant second in Vietnam, Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Governor Gongsak Yodmani said he was pleased with his athletes' efforts. He argued that the Thais did very well in several " international sports " particularly athletics, swimming, tennis, badminton and table tennis. The SAT had projected that the Thai contingent would win 112 gold medals, including 72 in international sports. The SAT will later assess the overall performance to use in preparations for the 32nd SEA Games to be held in Cambodia next year, he said. Dong Nai Province makes effort to conserve wild Asian elephants The number of the herd of Asian elephants in Dong Nai Province discovered through the investigation of the elephant conservation project in the province between 2014 to 2020 is 14. Thanks to relentless efforts to conserve staff in the Dong Nai Forest Protection Department, the herd of Asia's elephants is growing well with about 20 ones. Photo exhibition highlights military troops’ response to environment protection
The event was launched in celebration of the 132nd birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1989 - 2022) and the World Environment Day (June 5). One hundred and twenty outstanding photos were selected from 5,000 entries of professional and amateur photographers in the whole military for the exhibition. The organizing panel handed over one special, three first, ten second, 20 third, 31 consolation and 40 potential prizes to outstanding photos. Outstanding photos include “Chemical troops make great efforts for green environment to develop sustainably” by Vuong Minh Hung from the Chemical Corps, or “For a green Vietnam” by Ngo Viet Trung from the People’s Army Newspaper. The book, entitled Chiếc Dép Thất Lạc (The Lost Sandal), is a picture book for children by Belgian writer Geralda De Vos and Swedish illustrator Sofia Holt. They are living and working in Việt Nam. The book is a story of a girl named Linh who loses one of her favourite sandals and her adventure to reclaim it. De Vos came to Việt Nam in 2017 and has participated in environmental protection activities such as plastic waste reduction and recycling activities.
