Wooden cabinet exporters advised to review activities related to US’s investigation

Illustrative photo (Source: VNA) Hanoi – The Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam (TRAV) has recommended that wooden cabinet producers and exporters continue to review the export activities of their products subjected to the US Department of Commerce (DOC)’s anti-circumvention and anti-subsidy investigation. The recommendation was made given DOC’s fresh announcement on extending the time to submit comments and provide feedback to the case by one week. As such, the new deadline is 5pm of June 30 (Eastern Time) or 4am of July 1 (Vietnam time). The authority also requested the producers and exporters to study thoroughly the US’s anti-circumvention regulations and investigation procedures. They were also asked to fully comply with the US side’s request for information provision while working closely with the TRAV during the case settlement. Vietnamese fish sauce industry seeks ways to expand abroad

There is significant room for Vietnam to promote the export of fish sauce. (File Photo) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Vietnamese fish sauce industry needs to improve food hygiene and safety and diversify products to expand exports. According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, just a modest amount of fish sauce was exported, around 12.6% of the country’s total output per year, mainly to the Asian market (54%), the Australian market (18%) and African and European markets (13% each), last year. There are 17 production establishments currently exporting fish sauce. Tien said there was significant room for Vietnam to promote the export of fish sauce, given the country’s favourable natural condition and a wealth of experience in production. According to the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority, there are more than 4,200 fish sauce production establishments across the country, with an average output of around 380 million litres. Ho Chi Minh City proposes construction of $6bn int’l transshipment port

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have proposed the construction of a US$6 billion international transshipment port in outlying Can Gio District. The proposal was made by chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai in his document sent to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Thursday. The investment into the port was originally suggested by MSC Group – the world's largest shipping group, Vietnam Maritime Corporation, and Saigon Port. The project is expected to have about 7.2 kilometers of wharves and cost approximately $6 billion. The port will be able to receive the world's largest container ship, which can carry 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers, while its capacity will be around 10-15 million TEUs. The implementation of the project will be divided into seven phases, with the developers hoping that the first phase will be initiated in 2024 and put into operation in 2027.
