PM praises lorry driver who saved girl who fell from tower block in Hanoi

March 2, 2021 by en.nhandan.org.vn

Around 5:30pm on February 28, an unattended girl climbed over the balcony of her flat and hung on the outside of the building.

Witnessing the scene, residents in the opposite tower screamed for help and, just a few seconds later, the girl’s hand slipped and she fell.

At that moment, Manh, who was waiting for his customer on the ground, noticed the emergency and quickly climbed to the roof of the lobby and caught the falling girl.

The girl fortunately only suffered minor injuries and was immediately admitted to hospital while Manh’s action has been receiving plenty of praise on social media.

In his letter, Prime Minister spoke highly of Manh’s swift and brave rescue effort and asked the relevant agencies to honour the 31-year-old lorry driver so that his example of kindness and responsibility can be spread throughout society.

Earlier, Manh received a letter of praise from Hanoi Party Secretary Vuong Dinh Hue and a reward from Hanoi Chairman Chu Ngoc Anh for his good deed.

Parents relieved, happy as schools reopen

March 2, 2021 by vietnamnet.vn

Hanoi has decided to reopen schools after a 14-day closure. Many parents are thrilled that their children can return to classes.

Parents relieved, happy as schools reopen

For the last month, the life of Hoang Mai Van’s family in Ha Dong district, was chaotic because her children could not go to school.

As her husband is usually on business and away from home, Van has had to take care of the two children, a second and a fifth grader. She had to work from home in the week before Tet to have time to tutor them.

“I felt tired as I had to prepare meals, clean the house, work and remind them of online classes,” she said.

“As the younger child is still small, I had to attend online classes with him to help him log in to class and turn on the microphone,” she said.

After the Tet holiday, she had to go to the office, leaving the children with their grandmother. However, she still feels overloaded because “the phone rings all the time”.

“I am at the office but I still have to watch over my children from a distance,” she explained. “They ring me so regularly during the classes, complaining they cannot enter the classes because the teachers have changed passwords for class entrance, or they cannot hear the teachers’ voice.”

Van was excited when hearing that students would return to school from March 2.

“I will feel secure if children go to school. I hope that Covid is contained and everything will return to normal,” she said.

Having two children in the fourth and seventh grades, Dao Ngoc Anh in Ba Dinh district also complained that “too many troubles have arisen since the kids have had to stay at home”.

She has to take her younger daughter together with her to the office every day, because the girl cannot manage herself at home. Meanwhile, the older daughter staying at home usually calls her to ask for help fix problems with computers.

However, what worries Anh the most is the quality of online teaching.

“My daughter complains that she sometimes cannot listen to the teacher because she is unexpectedly thrown out of the class and has to log in again,” she said.

Mai Thanh Huyen in My Dinh said the parents’ productivity has decreased since the day schools close the doors.

“I have so many things to do during the day: I have to print papers, send schoolwork to teachers, fix computer problems and keep watch over messages,” she said.

Fashion designer Hoang takes part in theatrical world

March 1, 2021 by vietnamnet.vn

Well-known fashion designer Si Hoang is working with a group of actors in HCM City to produce a new play about Vietnamese history in an aim to lure audiences back to the theatre.

Hoang is working as a stage costume designer for Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh (Crying under the Blue Sky), a tragic work featuring the life of Le Van Thinh, a famous official of the royal court of the Ly Dynasty in 1084.

He was also invited to play the lead role Thinh after casting. He has worked with skilled actors of the Hoang Yen Drama Club to perfect his performance.

Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh is directed by Nguyen Phung. The play depicts the themes of patriotism and honesty.

“Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh features historical events. The play should be staged in a realistic style,” said fashion designer Hoang, in an interview with Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper last week.

“Director Phung asked actors to read documents and books about the history of Ly Dynasty, its culture and people. This helped to breathe life into the play.

“I hope our performance will leave a new impression on audiences,” he said.

Hoang has been working as a stage costume designer for many years with a large number of his products used in large-scale plays, including two produced by the Vietnam Cheo Theatre and the Hanoi Drama Theatre, to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

He has tried his hand at acting, and achieved his first success winning a silver prize for his role in Yêu là thoát tội at the National Drama Festival 2018 in Hanoi.

Hoang has worked with experts such as Professor Duong Trung Quoc in Hanoi and Professor Nguyen Khac Thuan in HCM City for his latest drama. “This helps me understand the national and local tradition from the period in which the drama is set,” said Hoang.

Graduating from HCM City Fine Arts College, Hoang has worked hard to make his dream come true. He designed his first ao dai in 1989 when the country’s first beauty contest Miss Áo Dài was held in HCM City.

He painted flowers on ao dai which were worn by the competition’s winners. His designs impressed judges and audiences. The trend of painting on ao dai was born.

In 2002, he opened Điểm Một Thời, a tea shop offering fashion shows and Vietnamese tea served in traditional style. The luxury shop quickly became an essential part of life in HCM City for many residents.

Điểm Một Thời served Queen Sylvia of Sweden and her husband King Carl Gustaf XVI during their tour to Vietnam in 2004. They revealed their musical side when they played the parts of “cup clickers” during a performance of traditional Vietnamese music at the shop. They also watched beautiful girls in ao dai at a fashion show.

“In Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh, we will offer Vietnamese drama in the style of the South,” said Hoang.

The play Khóc Giữa Trời Xanh will make its debut on May 12 at the city’s Opera House at 7 Lam Son Square in District 1.  VNS
