Hanoi (VNA) - A report collecting feedback on the draft Law on Drug Prevention and Control (amended) was mulled over at the 19th plenary session of the National Assembly’s Committee for Social Affairs, which opened in central Da Nang city on January 18. The programme on law and ordinance building for 2021 and the 2021-2025 period in the areas under the charge of the committee were also deliberated during the session, which is scheduled to conclude on January 19. Chairwoman of the committee Nguyen Thuy An said the draft Law on Drug Prevention and Control needs to be adjusted, and asked representatives from the ministries of labour, invalids and social affairs, health, and public security, and the compiling board to continue to work on the document. Hanoi (VNA) – Joint efforts have been made to prepare for the upcoming elections, heard a meeting of the National Election Council (NEC) in Hanoi on January 18. It was reported at the second meeting of the NEC that the council has joined hands with the NA Standing Board, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in the preparation work. As of January 14, the issuance of documents regarding the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature, and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure has been completed. Efforts have been made to ensure security and safety for the elections, according to chief of the office of the NEC Nguyen Hanh Phuc. Hanoi (VNA) - The National Centre for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast has reported that the temperature in the northern region will continue to decrease deeply over the coming days. Rain and cold air hit the northern region on January 18 with the lowest temperature of 8-10 degrees Celsius and 4-7 degrees Celsius in mountain areas.  The lowest temperature was recorded early January 18 in Sa Pa, Lao Cai province, was 7 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees in Mau Son, Lang Sơn province, a slight increase from the previous day. Some other mountainous areas also experienced very low temperatures including Pha Din (Dien Bien) with 9.4 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 12 degrees and Dong Van (Ha Giang) 7.3 degrees. Hanoi (VNA) – Two imported cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the past 24 hours to 6pm on January 18, raising the national count to 1,539, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. The two new cases are a 28-year-old Vietnamese man returning from the US, and a 59-year-old Costa Rican expert who arrived in Vietnam from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They tested positive for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 while being quarantined after arriving in Vietnam Also on January 18, 22 patients were given the all-clear, raising the number of recovered patients to 1,402. The fatalities remain at 35. Among patients still under treatment, 11 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 10 twice and nine thrice.
