Vietnamese sprint star Le Tu Chinh - dubbed Southeast Asia's Queen of Speed - will face a tough test in the defense of her 200m Southeast Asian Games title on Saturday after Filipina Kristina Marie Knott set a new competition record in the heats. Both runners won their respective qualifying races in the morning session of the first full day of athletics at the 20,000 capacity stadium at the Games' main hub in New Clark City on Saturday. Knott, 24, clocked a time of 23.07 seconds to break the SEA Games best, while the 22-year-old Vietnamese came in on 23.61. Chinh won a sweep of sprint titles in the 2017 Games in Kuala Lumpur - the 100m, 200m, and 4 x 100m relay - and is aiming to defend all three in the Philippines in the coming days. The three-day event is part of efforts made by the province and Big C, Central Group Vietnam, to introduce safe and high-quality products from other regions to the capital city’s citizens, as well as helping promote “One Community One Product” (OCOP) programme and grow local businesses and farmers. IT Olympiad for students, int’l programming contests conclude
Da Nang (VNA) - The 28th Informatics Olympiad for Students, the international programming contest (Procon) Vietnam and the 2019 International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia Da Nang Regional Contest concluded on December 6 after three days of competition. In the Informatics Olympiad, Le Minh Quang from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology overcame 80 rivals from provinces and cities across the country to win the trophy. Meanwhile, the Japanese team from Kyoto University of Japancame first in the ICPC Asia Regional Contest, which drew 112 teams from universities and colleges across Vietnam and 17 teams from regional countries. Police conclude investigation into death of boy locked in school bus in Hanoi
Police in Cau Giay District in Hanoi on Friday announced the conclusion of an investigation into the death of a first-grader who was locked inside a school bus for nine hours in early August, with prosecution proposed for three suspects. The police suggested the district People’s Procuracy launch prosecution against Nguyen Bich Quy, 55, and Doan Quy Phien, 53, for committing “involuntary manslaughter” and Nguyen Thi Thuy, 29, for “neglecting responsibility, causing serious consequences." The result of the police investigation shows that Quy and Phien, who were the supervisor and driver, respectively, of a school bus contracted by the Gateway School in Cau Giay District to transport its students, started picking up 13 Gateway students on a 16-seater van at 6:00 am on August 6.
