Police dogs are animal abuse

Dog thieves arrested for fatally electrocuting dog owner in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta

March 30, 2021 by tuoitrenews.vn

Police in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta have arrested three men for stealing dogs and killing one of the dog owners during a struggle last weekend.

Law enforcement officers in Tan Hung District, Long An Province confirmed on Monday they had apprehended Nguyen Van Chon, 28, Tran Van Thuan, 20, and Nguyen Quoc Tram, 33.

Chon and Thuan arrived at Tram’s house in Dong Thap Province, also in the Mekong Delta, at around 8:30 pm on Friday, according to the suspects’ statements.

Both brought along two pitchforks with wooden handles, while Tram prepared a homemade electric pulse and an electric battery, all of which would be used to stun and capture dogs.

The three consumed crystal meth until 10:30 pm the same day, before traveling to Tan Hung District, Long An Province on two motorbikes, bringing along their tools.

After stealing two dogs in a local neighborhood, the thieves headed to the house of T.T.H., 56, and noticed his dog walking on the sidewalk.

Tram approached the dog on his motorcycle, while Chon stunned the animal with the pitchfork charged with electricity as he sat on the back of the vehicle.

As they were putting the dog into a bag, H. and his son rushed to snatch back their pet.

Chon resisted and electrocuted H. with his pitchfork, causing the victim to collapse on the ground.

Chon ran away on the motorbike, while Tram stayed at the scene to help bring H. to the hospital.

The victim passed away shortly after, and Tram was escorted to the police station.

Chon and Thuan were hiding at a motel in Dong Thap Province when they were arrested by police.

Aviation authority asks army to curb dog invasion in Tan Son Nhat Airport

April 17, 2021 by tuoitrenews.vn

Addressing multiple dog intrusions that hampered operations of runways inside Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City recently, the Southern Airports Authority (SAA) has urged military units stationed near the local airdrome to strictly monitor their canines.

The SAA has sent official letters to several military divisions as well as the management board of Tan Son Nhat Airport guards to request the cessation of animal keeping in Tan Son Nhat Airport and surroundings.

Earlier on March 30, the authority in cooperation with the army forces found six uncaged dogs while examining animal keeping activities in the Tan Son Nhat Airport environs.

The cohort required the military units, who own the dogs, to bring them out and promise not to keep animals in the area again.

However, during an inspection on April 7, the airport authority still found dogs being kept in the same area.

Following this, SAA officials have urged the commanding officers of Tan Son Nhat Airport military guards to enforce a stop on animal keeping in the military site near the airdrome runways.

Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is utilized for both civilian services and military purposes, with the civil area located in the east and the south while the military area is located in the west and the north of the airport.

Dog invasion has recently emerged as a problem for the airport as the animals have repeatedly shown up on the runways, obstructing operations of the airport and requiring staffers to capture them.

Cam Ranh Airport in the southern Khanh Hoa Province has also reported cases of dog invasion recently, with one entry of a dog on the E3 runway causing as many as four flights to be halted.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has required relevant agencies to address this problem in an official letter.

More specifically, the management authority of Cam Ranh Airport must cooperate with military units stationed in the area to examine possible failures in the airport fence line, as well as enforcing a no-animal policy in the airport environs.

Dog thieves nabbed after pet owner electrocuted to death

March 29, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

The shocking incident happened after midnight on Saturday in the southern province of Long An. Provincial police have arrested the three men involved. One of them will be charged with homicide.

According to the police, Nguyen Van Chon and Tran Van Thuan, both residents of Long An, visited another man identified only as Tram at the latter’s house in Dong Thap Province last Friday.

After consuming some narcotics together, all three returned to Long An late in the night to steal dogs owned by locals. Chon rode pillion with Tram while Thuan drove another motorbike. The three men took homemade stun guns and a battery with them.

After successfully stealing two dogs alive from a house in Long An’s Tan Hung District, they moved to Hai’s house. However, his dog died after they shot it with the stun gun. Hai woke up on hearing the commotion and tried to stop the thieves even as he shouted out for help.

As they tried to escape, Chon fired his stun gun, hitting Hai in the hip. Hai collapsed immediately.

Chon asked Tram to flee with him, but the latter decided to stay back and help the family take Hai to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Tram was detained early Saturday morning. Chon had fled on foot, leaving behind his jacket and the homemade gun. He called Thuan and the duo fled to Dong Thap on one motorbike.

Police found them Sunday afternoon, hiding at a hotel in Thap Muoi District.

Chon will face charges of homicide while Thuan and Tram will be investigated for property theft.

Vietnam consumes an estimated five million dogs a year, second only to China’s 20 million. Many dogs served at restaurants are stolen pets sold to small, unregulated abattoirs.

Dog theft is treated as a crime only when the stolen dogs are valued at more than VND2 million ($86). Vietnam has no law against trading in and consuming dog meat.

Vietnamese man nabbed for sexually abusing 14-year-old stepdaughter

April 21, 2021 by tuoitrenews.vn

A man from Vietnam’s Central Highlands has been arrested and probed for sexually abusing his 14-year-old stepdaughter since late February.

Police in Dak G’Long District, Dak Nong Province confirmed Wednesday morning they had arrested and initiated legal proceedings against Ly Van Hieu, 53, for child sexual abuse.

The decision has been approved by the Dak G’Long People’s Procuracy.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the latest abuse took place on April 5.

Hieu returned home after drinking alcohol with his friends that day and noticed T.T.T. – his 14-year-old stepdaughter – was playing games on her smartphone, while her mother was outside.

The man started sexually abusing the girl on her bed.

T. tried to resist but she was overpowered by Hieu.

The girl later told her aunt about the incident, before the two reported the case to local police.

During the investigation, Hieu attempted to run away and was eventually taken into custody on April 14.

At the police station, he admitted to having sexually abused his stepdaughter multiple times since late February when her mother was not at home.
