Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh addresses a programme to call for support to Vietnam’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council Addressing the programme which drew more than 100 leaders, ministers and representatives of embassies and UN member countries, Minh said that Vietnam’s run for the position proves the country’s external policy of peace, independence, self–reliance as well as its wish to make more contributions to joint efforts of the international community for peace, security and sustainable development. He affirmed that if elected, Vietnam will exert every effort to promote dialogue and cooperation to prevent conflicts and peacefully settle international disputes, protect civilians amidst conflicts and deal with war aftermaths, thus building sustainable peace. Party Central Committee elects two additional members to Secretariat
The Party Central Committee (PCC) elected two additional members, namely Tran Cam Tu and Tran Thanh Man, to the Secretariat on May 9, during the third day of its 7th plenum. Two new Secretariat members Tran Thanh Man and Tran Cam Tu The PCC agreed, through a vote, to allow Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member, and permanent member of the Secretariat and Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, to leave the posts as the agency’s member and chairman. The PCC elected Tran Cam Tu, standing vice chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, as its new chairman. Hoang Van Tra, deputy secretary of the Party committee of Phu Yen province, was elected to the Central Inspection Commission. The other new member of the Secretariat is Tran Thanh Man, who is currently President of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front. The PCC also decided to expel Dinh La Thang from the Party after he was charged with serious economic mismanagement while chairman of PVN.
