Increasing digital marketing
On April 6, VNAT posted a YouTube video entitled “Travel to love – Seas beckon”, touting Vietnam’s stunning coasts and islands. A previous clip, “Dat nuoc, con nguoi Viet Nam” – “Vietnam, the Country and People” attracted over 1.4 million views within its first month.
The 70-second clip takes viewers on a panoramic journey through the unique terraced rice fields in the country’s northwest, the magnificent scenery and rich natural ecosystems in Son Doong – the world’s largest cave – in central Quang Binh Province, and the Mekong Delta region.
In addition to the YouTube clips, a virtual exhibition entitled the “Wonders of Vietnam” is available on the Google Art and Culture Library (Google Arts & Culture).
The program introduces not only the beauty of Vietnam’s majestic and pristine nature but also its unique cultural heritage in areas such as architecture, cuisine, the performing arts, festivals, and trade villages.
VNAT launched the digital tourism offerings two years ago, before the Covid-19 pandemic decimated global tourism, in collaboration with the US-based Google Group. It has featured 1,369 high-quality art photos and attractive interactive features.
The right time
Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Hong Long, Dean of the Tourism Studies Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said that in order to prepare for welcoming foreign visitors as soon as the borders re-open, Vietnam needs to properly invest in media-based tourism promotion inside and outside Vietnam.
At an online meeting with the US-ASEAN Business Council delegation, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said Vietnam is continuing to work with Google and Facebook to promote Vietnam as a safe destination, a beautiful country that has been successful in the pandemic’s control. Vietnam proposed that members of the US-ASEAN Business Council share more information about tourism development trends, and information about the country’s effective anti-pandemic measures and health safety.

Vietnamese embassies and representative offices in foreign countries are also promoting Vietnam as a safe destination. For example, the Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi recently held a promotion conference for Indian tourism businesses interested in Vietnamese destinations, especially those with potential for Indian weddings.
Economists say this is the right time for Vietnam to promote tourism to prepare for foreign visitor arrivals, while the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) recommends the tourism industry promote domestic tourism at the same time.
