Phu Quoc welcomes increasing investment in urban development
A corner of Phu Quoc (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Attracting large capital for urban development is essential for Phu Quoc city, which houses Phu Quoc island – Vietnam's largest off the southern province of Kien Giang, serving its diverse and sustainable growth after years of investing in the entertainment-resort tourism industry. A survey by the Vietnam Institute of Real Estate Studies ( VIRES ) showed that, in the past 3-5 years, over 90% of investors participated in the market’s tourism-resort realty segment. However, at the moment, the focus of investment has shifted to urban projects boasting transparent legality, with over 60% of investors interested in this segment. This move is expected to help develop responsible fisheries, and effectively and sustainably exploit aquatic resources on fishing grounds, towards having the European Commission 's warnings against IUU fishing removed in the two localities. Accordingly, Kien Giang and Ca Mau have jointly organised patrols and inspections to detect fishing vessels engaging in illegal fishing, especially in foreign waters, those using electric pulse and explosives to catch aquatic products, those operating in wrong areas, and the ones that have not installed monitoring devices or have installed but often cut connection. Floods affect thousands in northern Laos
The floods have hit the four provinces of Xayaboury, Huaphan, Luang Prabang, and Vientiane, with at least 10 districts affected, according to the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. In some areas, roads were flooded and water and electricity supplies cut off. In Xayaboury province, local authorities declared a state of emergency on August 12 after the Houng River overflowed its banks, swamping riverside villages and partially submerging houses. More than 10 villages in five districts of the province were affected. The province's Deputy Governor Phetthixay Sounvilay was quoted by local media as saying that some 600 military personnel have been called in to assist with the relief efforts. Stamp collection featuring famous Vietnamese waterfalls released
The four 43x32mm stamps, designed by painter Nguyen Duc Lan, depict the waterfalls of Dai Yem in northern Son La province, May in central Thanh Hoa province, Pongour in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, and Suoi Tranh in southern Kien Giang province.
