US doctor offers 500 artifacts to Vietnam Women’s Museum
The Vietnamese Women’s Museum held a ceremony on May 17 in Hanoi to receive roughly 500 artifacts donated by Mark Rapoport, a doctor from the United States, and his family. He was sent by the American Medical Association to work as a medical volunteer in hospitals across Da Nang City, as well as in ethnic people inhabited villages in Quang Ngai province. Since then he has been collecting Vietnamese cultural artifacts. He then returned to work in New York for 25 years. In 2001, he and his family moved to Hanoi in order to conduct research on the impact of Agent Orange/dioxin, with a specific focus on the rate of birth defects among infants. Rapoport continued to collect Vietnamese artifacts, particularly items relating to ethnic minority groups and Vietnamese ancestors. American business community very optimistic about U.S.-Vietnam economic ties
The two countries have reached a new height of over USD 100 billion in two-way trade, Foote, who is also co-founder of the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council (USVTC) and President and CEO of Bay Global Strategies, told the Vietnam News Agency's reporters on the sidelines of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s meeting with U.S. enterprises in New York on May 16. Vietnamese N.A. willing to share financial supervision experience with Laos
Receiving Lao Finance Minister Bounchom Oubonpaserth in Vientiane on May 16 during his official visit to the neighboring country, N.A. Chairman Hue appreciated the two finance ministries’ organization of mutual visits and experience sharing. He held that although the Lao financial sector faces many difficulties, the Government and the National Assembly of Laos have delivered timely directions towards restructuring financial institutions. Hailing Laos for transparency in budget revenue and expenditure, and public debt, the top Vietnamese legislator emphasized the need to modernize the tax and customs sectors, strengthen publicity and transparency, and switch to e-invoices to both protect staff and ensure revenues. Vietnam, Laos’ fronts and ministries step up cooperation
Chau is accompanying Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue on his official visit to Laos from May 15 – 17. Affirming the growing bilateral relations, the officials agreed to focus their attention on organizing activities marking the two countries’ Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties, and the 45th year of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. The two are scheduled to visit each other’s country this year. Vietnam and Laos also plan to hold a conference on building a shared border of peace and friendship in 2022. Previously, Chau met leaders of the associations of the Vietnamese people in Laos and Thailand and the Vietnamese business association in Laos to get to know their wishes and opinions after being severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years.
