Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has recorded significant achievements in managing national foreign debts over the past three decades, said an official at a workshop held in Hanoi on January 26. Vo Huu Hien, Vice General Director of the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Debt Management and External Finance, made the statement, adding that the effective management has transformed Vietnam from a poor and heavily indebted country into a one receiving international organisations’ recognition as having a controlled external debt level and being excluded from the group of countries with a debt burden. According to data from the ministry, the public sector’s proportion in the structure of the national external debt decreased from 73.6 percent in 2010 to 63.4 percent in 2015 and 43.7 percent in 2020. The Government’s foreign loans are mainly official development assistance and concessional loans. Czech media spotlights Vietnam’s rising position, achievements
Prague (VNA) - Media reports in the Czech Republic have highlighted Vietnam’s rising position and recent development achievements, as well as the flourishing development of the traditional friendship between the two countries, on the occasion of the ongoing 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). The online newspaper halonoviny.cz ran an article on January 25 emphasising that the Congress is one of the most important political events in 2021 for Vietnam, attracting interest internationally. Under the leadership of the CPV, in recent years Vietnam, as a member of ASEAN, has had an rising role and position in the region as well as in the world, the article said. Struggle for AO/dioxin victims in Vietnam endures
Paris (VNA) - Significant attention has been paid to a hearing on January 25 for a trial brought by Vietnamese-French woman Tran To Nga against the US companies that provided the chemical toxins used by the US Army in the war in Vietnam. At the trial, held in the Crown Court of Evry city in the suburbs of Paris, lawyers for the defendants spent more than four hours arguing for their clients, which are 17 chemical producers from the US, including Monsanto (acquired by the German group Bayer in 2018) and Dow Chemical, while Nga’s three lawyers had only one and a half hours. Lawyers William Bourdon, Amelie Lefebvre, and Bertrand Repolt have stood side-by-side with Nga for more than 10 years.
