Bomb disposal squad in peacetime
There are nameless people who are quietly facing death to bring peace for others. In the early morning, Duoi Chuot canal in Hamlet 1, Ba Sao commune, Cao Lanh district in the southern province of Dong Thap woke up by the appearance of some strangers. An old man in bare feet ran towards strange men with cheerful attitude. “Oh God, I’m so glad to see you here!” That old man was Mr. Tran Van Minh who had been living in uncertainty for a time, since he unearthed a big bomb on his field. The bomb emerged on the surface, with a steel wire with it. The news about the bomb spread very quickly. The road along Duoi Chuot canal, which is adjacent to Minh’s field, suddenly became a dangerous spot. Anyone who saw the bomb was scare of it. Some daring men volunteered to take the bomb to cast it to a nearby river but Minh did not agree. Minh and his family became reluctant “bomb” guards. Colorful opening ceremony of Nha Trang sea festival
- The fifth Sea Festival 2011, themed “Nha Trang The Sea Rendezvous” opened in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on June 11. Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister, Nguyen Thien Nhan underlined that with a coastal line of over 3,260 km, Vietnam makes efforts to become a strong country from marine resources, as set under the country’s Sea Strategy until 2020. He urged localities to unite with Khanh Hoa province to promote seas’ potentials, serving socio-economic development and ensuring national security and sovereignty. The six-day event will feature 60 cultural and sports programs, including a bathing festival, music performances, a seminar on developing bird’s nests in the central coastal region, a photo exhibition on Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, as well as display of Truong Sa map made from coffee beans.
