HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam’s imports of high-value seafood such as king crabs and lobsters are rising due to their falling prices, and are expected to rise even further during the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, experts have said. Robert Greenan, Deputy Consul General at the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, said last year exports of Alaskan seafood rose 125 percent to 19 million USD. Vietnam became the US’s sixth largest buyer of agricultural products and foodstuffs with imports worth 4 billion USD. According to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute in Vietnam, demand for seafood is rising in the country, and several processing factories are moving from China to Vietnam due to tariffs. Vietnam posts remarkable economic achievements in 2016-2020 period
The country’s labour productivity in the 2016-20 period increased by 5.8 per cent, exceeding the set target, while the consumer price index decreased from 18.6 per cent in 2011 to below 4 per cent in the 2016-20 period. Its import and export increased 1.7 times, with a trade surplus posted for five consecutive years. E-commerce became an important distribution channel of the economy with an increase of 25 per cent. Vietnam has become an important cog in regional and global economic connectivity, joining a number of important free trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), thereby creating a new driving force for development. US shares experience in environmental management
Hanoi (VNA) – The US’s experience in environmental management and air quality control in Vietnam were touched upon at a seminar in Hanoi on January 25. The event, themed “Solving the air quality crisis: from the US to Vietnam,” was jointly held by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the environmental protection agency under the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and Live & Learn Centre. Dr. Le Bich Thuy from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology pointed out the harmful impact of air pollution on human health and life, and called for joint efforts to find suitable measures to tackle the problem.
