HCM City (VNS/VNA) - A number of universities in the country will launch new majors for the 2021-2022 academic year to meet labour market demand. The amended Education Law gives universities the right to make independent decisions on opening new academic majors. Pham Thai Son, director of the Communications and Enrollment Centre at the HCM City University of Food Industry, said “The university will have six new majors this year, including food business management, fashion and textile business, marketing, thermal engineering and technology, energy management, and analytical chemistry engineering.” “Students in the food business management major will study business administration and food technology,” Son said. Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign media have run several articles highlighting Vietnam’s economic success given a struggling world plagued by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nikkei Asia Review said Vietnam’s production sector has proven its fast and steady recovery. The country’s open market and signing of numerous free trade agreements (FTAs), particularly the EU-Vietnam FTA, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), are promising great opportunities for growth. The paper said Vietnam stands out for its success in controlling the pandemic. Foxconn invests in 270-million USD laptop plant in Bac Giang
Bac Giang (VNA) – Foxconn Singapore PTE Ltd will build a 270-million USD plant to produce laptops and tablets at Quang Chau industrial park in the northern province of Bac Giang. The company was among four projects of Singaporean and Hong Kong investors with total capital of nearly 570 million USD awarded investment certificates at a ceremony on January 18. Besides Foxconn, Risesun Investment Pte.Ltd (Singapore) will pour 75 million USD in a plant to produce plastic and composite products and 6 million USD into another factory to manufacture PVC decorative films at Hoa Phu industrial park. Ja Solar Investment (Hong Kong) Limited invests 210 million USD in a photovoltaic manufacturing plant at Quang Chau industrial park.
