(VOVworld) – Russia’s Federal Security Council has criticised a new US national security strategy, saying the US is trying to destabilise and isolate Russia. In a statement released Thursday, the council said Western powers are trying to create an anti-Russia sentiment in nations which used to have partnerships with Russia and to diminish Russia’s influence in former Soviet states. On February 6, 2015, President Obama released his National Security Strategy (NSS) that serves as U.S. policy for the remaining two years of his presidency. NSS is supposed to set priorities to guide funding and resourcing decisions and to ensure that security, intelligence, defense and humanitarian functions are widely understood and properly coordinated. In the past, foreign governments, international organizations, and terrorists alike, have eagerly anticipated NSS to see where U.S. efforts will be focused. The 29-page memo to Congress, required under law, broadly outlined Obama's foreign policy priorities for the final two years of his presidency. Obama described the most pressing challenges of violent extremism, Russian aggression, cyberattacks and climate change and said they were best addressed by mobilizing international coalitions. Obama renewed the US commitment to lead an international coalition to defeat Islamic State and work with European allies to isolate Russia over its support for rebels in eastern Ukraine. Nhan Dan - Politburo member Le Hong Anh asked the Ministry of Public Security to exert every effort to realise the national strategy on protecting the country during his working session with the force on February 18 in Hanoi. Politburo member Anh, who is also Permanent member of the Secretariat, further urged the force to make sure consultation with the Party and State on handling hostile forces was timely. The Russian Government should get involved in drawing up long-term security plans for strategic goals despite the financial turmoil the country is facing, said President Dmitry Medvedev. Mr Medvedev made the statement at a working session of the National Security Council to discuss a new security strategy, laying out the country’s priority areas through 2020. He said that the government must embark on long-term goals though its economy is encountering difficulties. Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the council, said that the global financial crisis is posing new threats to Russia’s security, including an increase in the unemployment rate, a shift in relationships among social strata, domestic economic slowdown, run-away inflation and the budget deficit.
