Number of Indians applying for Vietnam visas jumps 24-fold following COVID-19 pandemic

The number of Indians applying for visas to Vietnam jumped by a whopping 2,400 percent following the COVID-19 pandemic, indicating Indian people’s growing interest in visiting the Southeast Asian country. The Department of Tourism in Da Nang City, central Vietnam and Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet Air organized a program in New Delhi, India on Thursday to promote Da Nang tourism. The event was an opportunity to introduce the coastal city's tourism to Indian businesses and tourists, as well as highlight its popular attractions and exciting festivals. The program also provided information on products and services, especially service packages at beach resorts, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism, and wedding tourism. Analysis: Global rice supplies at risk as harsh weather hits top exporters

SINGAPORE/MUMBAI -- Adverse weather across top rice suppliers in Asia, including the biggest exporter India, is threatening to reduce the output of the world's most important food staple and stoke food inflation that is already near record highs. Rice has bucked the trend of rising food prices amid bumper crops and large inventories at exporters over the past two years, even as COVID-19, supply disruptions and more recently the Russia-Ukraine conflict made other grains costlier. But inclement weather in exporting countries in Asia, which accounts for about 90% of the world's rice output, is likely to change the price trajectory, traders and analysts said. "There is an upside potential for rice prices with the possibility of production downgrades in key exporting countries," said Phin Ziebell, agribusiness economist at National Australia Bank. Da Nang’s tourism promoted in India

Delegates to the programme (Photo: VNA) New Delhi (VNA) – A programme introducing Da Nang city’s tourism was held in New Delhi, India on August 4. The event was jointly held by the People’s Committee of Vietnam’s central city and Vietjet Air , aiming to popularise destinations and introducing the carrier’s direct air routes linking Da Nang and Indian cities. Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau said that the average number of visas for Indians to enter Vietnam has surged after COVID-19, from 250 visas per day before the pandemic to 6000 at present. Nguyen Duc Quynh, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, said that India will be an important market for many tourist destinations during the post-pandemic recovery period.
