The river starts from Binh Phuoc province, running through Tay Ninh, Binh Duong provinces and Ho Chi Minh City. The stretch in HCMC is approximately 80 kilometers long. Alongside the riverbanks, lot of houses and other construction works have been built. Specifically, tens of houses are found encroach the riverbed along the riverbank from District 12 to Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Thu Duc districts and District 2. The worst transgressed area is in Thu Duc district with tens of houses and villas. The riverbank area in Thao Dien ward, District 2 has been handed over to investors of housing and high class villas projects. Hanoi rejects Red River cable project
The authorities in Hanoi have turned down a proposal to build a cable car system across the Red River. The cable cars would connect Long Bien Bus Station in Hoan Kiem District Ngo Manh Tuan, deputy head of the Department of Transport, said on July 19 that they had submitted a report about the project to the Hanoi People's Committee. According to Tuan, the project does not suit the city’s urban planning. The city construction and transportation plans also don't have any cable system projects. Moreover, the cable route coincides with the urban railway line 1 route which will affect the cityscape. Several experts also opposed the project. Bui Danh Lien, deputy head of Hanoi Transport Association, said to VNExpress that the project's goal was to reduce congestion across the Red River but it was impossible since it could transport a maximum of only 7,000 passengers every hour. JICA helps Vietnam enhance water environment management in river basin
Dong Nai River (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) –Vietnam has made progress in water environment management in river basins thanks to a project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). A coordination mechanism in water environment protection in the basin of Dong Nai River, along with a new river basin commission have been established, heard a meeting of the steering board of the “Strengthening capacity of water environment management in river basin” project on May 10. Ichiro Adachi, chief advisor of the JICA expert team, stressed the significance of the project in terms of sustainable management, saying a coordination mechanism is one of the most important factors in water environment management for river basins. Viet Nam News BẮC NINH — The Tri Phương River Port Project was launched on Wednesday in Tiên Du District, Bắc Ninh Province, with Bắc Kì Investment Joint Stock Company as its main investor. The project is expected to handle the imports and exports of five northern provinces including Bắc Ninh, Bắc Giang, Thái Nguyên, Vĩnh Phúc and Hà Nội, using waterway containers, reducing delivery time and easing the pressure on road traffic. The port located on the 2.5ha area has the capacity to handle barges of 900TEUs and four 120TEUs. The total capacity is 200,000TEUs per year. Moreover, there will be 100 tractors taking charge of transferring goods to and from the port. A custom authority will also be established to directly process documents related to goods being imported and exported.
