People who grow kumquat trees in the central city of Hoi An are busy as the Lunar New Year nears. Pham Huu Phuoc in Cam Ha Commune said that the favourable weather condition has helped the kumquat tree to develop well. “This year, kumquat prices are higher than last year. A kumquat tree is sold at between VND300-900,000. The price is even up to tens of millions of VND for special kinds of kumquat tree,” Phuoc added. Unique kumquat trees on sale ahead of Lunar New Year festival
Although there’s still 2 months until Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival 2019, many unique kumquat trees in Tu Lien village in Tay Ho District, Hanoi have already caught the attention of consumers. For the first time in the history of the festival some farming houses have planted pig shaped ceramic pots carrying kumquat trees. Each pot costs between VND500,000 and VND10 million. The price depends on the design and the size of each tree. Bui The Manh, a garden owner in Tu Lien village says gardeners had to plan ahead and spent 2 years planting kumquat trees in the pig shaped ceramic pots. Mr Manh said the kumquat tree is plotted into the ceramic pigs when the tree is still very small, if left too long it can be difficult to then plant the tree inside one.
