Canteen food jeopardizes Ho Chi Minh City children’s lives
Ho Chi Minh City children are exposed to life-threatening risks when they eat food and candy of doubtful origin in school canteens, which a doctor warns can cause strokes. City school canteens now sell food items favored by children at cheap prices, including popping candies, coconut jelly, spiced rice paper, soft drinks, iced colored syrup, and dried squids. The kids eat their favorite snacks, which can be bought at VND2,000-5,000 (9-24 US cents), without knowing where and how they were made or whether they meet food safety standards. A canteen staff member at a school revealed kids are currently crazy about stick-shaped dried squids spiced with chilli powder and sugar, and a kind of sour crushed popping candy made of sugar and dried fruit-like particles. While receiving Alex Mourmouras, Chief of the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department, on March 16, Nhan said HCM City is facing difficulties in preparing capital resources for urban infrastructure building. Bui Vien Walking Street to officially debut tonight
Following over a month of delay, Bui Vien Walking Street in Ho Chi Minh City’s ‘backpacker area’ is set to have its grand opening tonight, August 20. Located in Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1, the city’s newest pedestrian street is scheduled to debut on Sunday night, offering local residents and tourists a wide variety of entertainment activities. The promenade stretches 850 meters long from the Bui Vien intersection with Tran Hung Dao-Nguyen Thai Hoc Streets to Cong Quynh Street. During the opening night, two stages will be set up in front of 33 and 204 Bui Vien Street for a series of artistic performances, alongside such activities as street cuisine, sports, and folk games. HCM City International Music Festival opens
At the event (Source: nhandan.org.vn) HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City International Music Festival 2019 (HOZO 2019) kicked off at the Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, District 1, HCM City on December 13. According to the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, its organiser, the three-day festival is part of HCM City’s strategic investment plan to develop the city’s cultural industry until 2020. HOZO 2019 offers a precious opportunity for traditional music to merge with modern music, spreading the value of national music and culture to the world.
