In 2000, the canal that flows two kilometers through Districts 5 and 6 was filled up following heavy pollution and serious encroachment. By then, the canal spread only two kilometers wide with blackish and stinky water. To continue its drainage function, a concrete box culvert was installed. Fifteen years later, the city decided to recover the canal with a three-phase project that cost VND2 trillion ($86.2 million) to build a drainage system and relocate affected households. The project was to complete in 2020 but got delayed. In 2020, a section 200 meters long and 14-16 meters wide in District 6 was revived, with the two banks turned into a park. HCMC prepares to invest in eight major traffic infrastructure projects
It assigned the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board to act as the preparation unit for investment projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, and traffic projects funded by the city budget. The Department of Transport was entrusted to organize the pre-feasibility study report or directly make a report proposing investment policy. Promoting regional cooperation on ship waste management
The event, which took place on May 17, was part of the ‘Rethinking Plastics - Circular Economy Solutions to Marine Litter’ project, financed by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The German development agency GIZ and Expertise France are the implementers of the project itself. Held in a hybrid format in collaboration with Vinamarine, the workshop boasted 40 participants from the Ministry of Transport (MoT) and various ports across Vietnam, as well as more than 100 online participants from ASEAN and other regions. It was suggested that Vinamarine and the MoT look into developing a strategy on capacity building for ship waste management in ASEAN with other countries. HCMC establishes assessment board of HCMC-Moc Bai expressway project
Map of the HCMC-Moc Bai expressway The assessment board consisting of 18 members who are representatives of the relevant departments will be responsible for preparing and completing reports of the project. The board will evaluate the pre-feasibility study report on the construction project of the HCMC-Moc Bai expressway which will be built under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) format. According to the construction project, the HCMC-Moc Bai expressway has a total length of over 50 kilometers with six lanes, starting from the Ring Road 3 in HCMC’s Cu Chi District, spanning over the Vam Co River and linking up to Moc Bai International Border Gate in Tay Ninh Province’s Ben Cau District. Transport Ministry announces projects with slow disbursement
The projects invested by the ministry include the transport project connecting mountainous Northern provinces, the Tan Van - Nhon Trach section of Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road No. 3 project, the construction of Dien Chau-Bai Vot section of the North-South expressway, My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway, construction of the Interconnecting Road to National. Highway No 91 and Long Xuyen City bypass, the subproject on upgrading and renovating National Highway 279B, construction of the National Roads of 21B and 15, and the project to upgrade the runways at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The Ministry of Transport has disbursed VND15,080 billion (US$650 million), reaching 34.9 percent of the plan.
