Hanoi-headquartered Techcombank recorded another year of stellar financial performance and growth in 2021, while continuing to support its customers, employees and communities in Vietnam, especially those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the bank recorded VND37.1 trillion (over $1.6 billion) in its total operating income, up 35.4 percent year-on-year. The bank’s profit before tax (PBT) rose to VND23.2 trillion. The company has achieved double-digit PBT growth for five consecutive years, at a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 50 percent between 2016 and 2021. Singapore’s energy provider, SP Group, pledged to pour SGD750 million, or VND12 trillion (US$539 million), into sustainable energy projects in Vietnam by 2025, heard a press briefing on Wednesday. Stanley Huang, chief executive officer at SP Group, committed to helping Vietnam achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. “Vietnam is one of the group’s key markets. We feel encouraged by the Vietnamese government’s clear orientation in the next 10-20 years,” said Huang. According to the representative of SP Group, the group is set to support Vietnam’s effort through numerous sustainable energy projects across the country and via agreements in the commercial and industrial fields with its partners. A serial traffic accident between a car, whose female driver was said to be live streaming while steering it, a motorbike and an electric bicycle killed a 16-year-old girl in Lam Dong Province of Vietnam’s Central Highlands region on Thursday. The accident occurred at 7:40 am at the T intersection between 30 Thang 4 and Pham Ngoc Thach Streets in Da Teh District, Lam Dong, local police reported the following day. When N.Y.N., a 16-year-old high school student, was making a left turn into Pham Ngoc Thach Street in accordance with the traffic light there, N.D.T, a resident of Cat Tien District, rode his motorbike in the same direction and collided with N.’s bike, knocking the girl down to the road surface.
