Int’l workshop discusses peace sustaining amid uncertainties

The two-day event, held by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung foundation of Germany, is part of the 12th general conference of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific (CSCAP). It draws more than 200 delegates, including over 100 foreign scholars and 35 diplomatic missions in Vietnam. Vietnam expands international cooperation in maritime issues

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The promulgation of Resolution 36-NQ/TW at the eighth session of the 12th Party Central Committee in October 2018 on the marine economic development strategy illustrates Vietnam’s broad strategic vision of turning the country into a strong maritime nation. In an article titled “Proactively enhancing and expanding external relations and international cooperation in maritime issues” published on Nhan dan (People) newspaper on January 11, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said the resolution affirms Vietnam’s special attention to this matter. Trung, also head of the National Border Committee, said promoting foreign relations and cooperation in sea-related issues is one of the five major guidelines set in the resolution, aiming to build and maintain a peaceful, stable environment and legal order at sea as the basis for the safe and efficient use of maritime resources. Vietnam to promote ASEAN unity during ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020

Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam Nguyen Quoc Dung (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam wants ASEAN to unite in all aspects, from institutions to economy and human resources, which is very important for ASEAN to uphold its central role, said Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam Nguyen Quoc Dung. The diplomat recently granted an interview to the press on the country’s role and position in 2020, when Vietnam will serve the double roles of Chair of ASEAN and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, which is both an honour and a heavy task. US experts: China should refrain from actions further militarising East Sea

(Photo: AFP) Washington D.C (VNA) – China and other concerned nations should refrain from actions that further militarise the East Sea and parties need to sit down for negotiation via diplomatic channels to resolve the issue, according to an US expert. China’s growing militarisation of the East Sea makes the situation more complicated and probably causes misunderstanding in an area that has already suffered from many conflicts and complexity, Lindsey Ford, Director for Political-Security Affairs at the US’s Asia Society Policy Institute told Vietnam News Agency during a recent briefing by the University of Pennsylvania’s global research centre Perry World House.
