The ASEAN flag is hoisted at a ceremony in Hanoi (Photo: VNA) Hanoi, (VNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a ceremony in Hanoi on August 8 to fly the ASEAN flag in celebration of the bloc’s 55th founding anniversary (August 8, 1967) and 27th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to the regional organization (July 28, 1995). The ceremony was chaired by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, and attended by Ambassadors of ASEAN countries and ASEAN partners, along with local officials. Fishermen in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province are transporting essential commodities onto their boats for offshore fishing trips. 46-year-old fisherman Nguyen Van Muoi from Hoang Mai Town of Nghe An Province happily shared that he has just come ashore to sell 40 tonnes of squid and 10 tonnes of fish. When the oil price increased last month, it took him nearly VND300 million (US$12,800) to buy fuel. Luckily, the last trip was bountiful, and his profit came to VND300 million. Packing next to Muoi’s boat is the boat of 43-year-old Chuong Van Thanh from Hai Cang Ward of Quy Nhon City. In 2021, bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and the EU rose by 14.5% year-on-year to US$57.01 billion, in which Vietnam exported goods and products worth $40.1 billion, or an increase of 14.2%; and imported $16.9 billion. “This helped the country maintain a trade surplus of over $23.2 billion last year,” Hai said. ASEAN flag raising ceremony held in Hanoi
The ceremony is solemnly held annually in all member states on the occasion of the bloc anniversary, which falls on August 8. A flag-raising ceremony was held on August 8 in Hanoi to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in downtown Hanoi, the ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Vietnamese high-ranking officials, and representatives of ASEAN member states and the bloc’s partner countries.
