Vietnam’s V-League 1 gets Best Developing League of the Year award

The new award categories aim to reward Asia’s best and most promising leagues, graded on their management and administration, financial performance, competitiveness, marketing and promotion and media and communications, the AFC said. This is the first time Vietnam’s V- League honorly received the awards. Competitive video gaming, dubbed esports, is appearing for the first time at a major multi-sport event. Organizer Kenneth Kwok, who heads the Asian Esports Federation, opened the competition by saying it was a “historical moment” for esports and the first step towards inclusion in the Olympic Games. Huddled over smartphones in a Jakarta arena, eight teams duelled throughout Sunday for supremacy in Tencent’s online game Arena of Valor (AOV), trading supernatural blows, slaying dragons, and invading enemy towers. On Sunday, esports behemoth China rapidly emerged on top and dominated the finals, scoring an early lead against Taiwan thanks to dual kills and a destruction of their territory.
