ASL LAW successfully defends in lawsuit against circumvention of trade remedies

On August 1, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No.1514/QD-BCT on the application of measures to prevent the evasion of trade remedies for some cane sugar products originating from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar (AC02.AD13-AS01). The conclusion from the Ministry of Industry and Trade on six businesses not being subject to anti-circumvention tax on trade remedies, including two customers of ASL LAW According to Decision No.1514, Vietnam will apply measures to prevent the evasion of trade remedies for a number of cane sugar products under HS codes 1701.13.00, 1701.14.00, 1701.91.00, 1701.99.10, 1701.99.90, and 1702.90.91. The above cane sugar products are imported into Vietnam from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar. Vietnamese steel faces more trade remedy lawsuits

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has launched a trade remedy duty evasion investigation into a number of steel pipe products imported from Viet Nam. — Photo diendandoanhnghiep.vn The Mexican Secretariat of Economy has announced an anti-dumping investigation into cold-rolled steel imported from Viet Nam, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). The investigated products are classified under HS codes 7209.16.01, 7209.17.01, 7209.18.01, 7209.26.01, 7209.27.01, 7209.28.01, 7209.90.99, 7211.23.03, 7211.29.99, 7211.90.99, 7225.50.07, and 7226.92.06. Statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC) showed that Viet Nam earned US$220 million from exporting iron and steel, mostly those coded HS 7209 and 7210, to Mexico in 2020, an increase of 70 per cent compared to 2019. Vietnam ready for talks with US on tax evasion investigation into Vietnamese steel pipes

Vietnam is willing to hold trade talks with the United States to timely solve arising problems regarding a U.S. anti-circumvention investigation into steel pipe products imported from the Southeast Asian country. Le Thi Thu Hang, spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday following reports that the U.S. officially initiated an investigation into the case. Even though Vietnam has a basic legal frame to protect personal data, the sanctions are considered too light, while the impacts of privacy infringement might be quite serious in certain cases as they can damage the honor, dignity, and safety of victims. Therefore, it is suggested to add more provisions on criminal liability for violation of personal data into the Penal Code. Some serious violations on the law to protect personal data like illegally collecting, exploiting, and selling personal data can be considered a crime. It is also necessary to increase the effectiveness of the personal data protection mechanism via civil lawsuits.
