On December 5, Lao Cai police detained two women and eight men of Chinese nationality, aged between 23 and 39, on suspicion of swindling in Bac Cuong ward of Lao Cai city. Police said the suspects rented rooms in Bac Cuong ward and used Chinese SIM cards to sell the chemical methanol online via the local wifi network. They required their buyers to send money into their accounts first, saying they had to pay taxes or storage costs, and then cut off all contact. They were found to have connections with a ring accused of 200 online methanol swindling cases in 12 provinces and cities of China. Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has signed an official document to start a VND2.5trn (USD107m) project that will link Sapa with the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway. A road to Sapa The BOT project includes repairing and upgrading the National Highway 4D and expanding provincial road 155 to link Sapa with Lao Cai City. The fund will come from the state budget, locality budget, investor capital and credit loans. The extended provincial road will be 25km long. The sections running through the mountainous area will have two lanes while the section through Sapa will have four lanes. The National Highway 4D is over 29km long connecting Sapa and Lao Cai City. However, the highway is narrow and has many bends. From 2018 to 2020, the authorities will clear the ground and the project and start expanding the provincial road 155. Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam plans to build five new airports in the next 12 years. Currently, the country has 23 airports, comprising 13 domestic and 10 international. It aims to have 15 domestic and 13 international by 2030. The ambitious goals were announced as part of Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc’s decision in 2016 for the adjusted planning on aviation transport until 2020 with a vision towards 2030. Also included in the adjusted planning, the Government of Việt Nam wanted to build airports in areas with big tourism potential like Sa Pa, Vân Đồn, Đồng Hới and Chu Lai. Compared to the same period last year, traffic accident numbers fell by 2.89 percent but fatalities rose 1.66 percent. Among 27 localities posting more fatalities, 14 saw a rise of more than 40 percent while Ca Mau, Tay Ninh and Cao Bang provinces registered 150 percent or more extra deaths.
