The Van Don International Airport in northeast Vietnam, near the famous Ha Long Bay, will open to traffic in December this year, the investor has said. This is the first airport in the country that has been built with the entire capital of VND7.5 trillion ($330 million) mobilized locally. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Transport had decided that Van Don will be an international airport that will be used for both commercial and military purposes. The group said it will submit to the Prime Minister for approval the plan on the airport opening schedule in July. Construction on the airport started in 2015 with total investment of 7.5 trillion VND (330 million USD). It is the first airport in the country built with capital mobilized by local authorities. HCM CITY – Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City is still at risk of being flooded during the rainy season, as all of the drainage canals are blocked with trash. The latest report by the HCM City’s Steering Centre of the Urban Flood Control Programme showed that the drainage system of the airport has been blocked by trash both inside and outside the airport. Specifically, inside the airport, the 1,000mm drain from the Tân Sơn Nhất Petroleum Joint Stock Company to Nhật Bản Canal was partially blocked by construction waste.
