The fact that leaders and officers of the HCM City Education and Training Department receive remuneration for compiling textbooks has caused a stir among the public. In a document from the Ministry of Education and Trianing (MOET) to the local press, the ministry affirmed that in order to ensure fairness, publicity and transparency in choosing textbooks, the ministry has drafted a circular (which has been published on its website for public opinions) which stipulates that those who compile and inspect textbooks will not be allowed to become members of councils which have the right to choose textbooks for use. The fact that the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the HCM City Education and Training Department are joining hands to compile textbooks is the responsibility of involved parties and they need to explain this to MOET. Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - Remittance to Ho Chi Minh City in the first quarter of 2018 increased by 4.5 percent against the same period last year to reach 1.12 billion USD, a central bank official said. According to Nguyen Hoang Minh, Deputy Director of State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)’s HCM City branch, most of the remittance is invested in production and business instead of being poured into real estate, securities or savings as previously. Roughly half of the remittance to the city came from the United States, Canada and Australia, he said. The remittance to HCM City has been rising in recent years, Minh said, predicting that the capital source to the city will continue to be positive this year. HCM City remained the largest recipient of remittances in Vietnam last year, with an inflow of 5.2 billion USD, a 4.5 percent year-on-year increase. HÀ NỘI — Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Việt Nam Michael Croft presented a certificate recognising Hà Nội as an official member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Chung at a ceremony in the capital on Friday. Chung said the participation in the network enabled Hà Nội to increase its competitiveness in investment attraction, stimulate urban regeneration, and develop education programmes and cultural events in association with sustainable development.
