March 5, 2021 by tuoitrenews.vn

Complied by the Vietnam Records Organization (Vietkings) and Vietnam Top Center (VietTop), the list includes dishes and food gifts from each of Vietnam’s 63 provinces and municipalities.

In order to qualify for the list, dishes must be a reflection of Vietnamese culture, made from natural ingredients, healthy and widely available.

Specialties selected must meet key criteria such as reflecting Vietnamese characteristics.

The project to compile the list began in 2012.

During the past decade, Vietkings has evaluated over 500 dishes and specialties from across the nation before settling on a finalized ranking.

The noodle dishes which made the list include ‘bun nuoc leo’ from Soc Trang, ‘banh canh Ben Co’ from Tra Vinh, ‘pho kho Gia Lai’ from Gia Lai, ‘bun cha ca Quy Nhon’ from Binh Dinh, ‘bun bo Hue’ from Hue, and ‘banh da cua’ from Hai Phong.

In the ‘cakes’ category are ‘banh khot’ from Ba Ria – Vung Tau, ‘banh tam bi’ from Bac Lieu, and ‘banh gia Go Cong’ from Tien Giang.

Salads on the list include ‘sau dau’ dried snakehead fish salad from An Giang and sardin salad from Kien Giang.

The list of gift specialties includes Thoai Son dried snakehead from An Giang, Ben Tre coconut candy, Lai Thieu mangosteens from Binh Duong, honey from U Minh forest in Ca Mau, shrimp salt from Tay Ninh, and Ly Son garlic from Quang Ngai.

All foods listed in the two categories will be issued certificates and medals from VietTop and a ceremony honoring the dishes will be held on April 26.

MoLISA wants to keep region-based minimum wage unchanged

March 5, 2021 by hanoitimes.vn

The Hanoitimes – A no-rise in minimum wage would create conditions for enterprises to recover and workers keeping their jobs, stated the labor ministry.

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) has rejected two proposals from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for a rise in the region-based minimum wage in 2021.

The information was unveiled in a MoLISA’s document seeking opinions from government agencies and business associations. A report would later be submitted to the government before March 10 related to the issue.

In addition to keeping the region-based minimum wage unchanged for this year, the MoLISA said the timing for effective wage rise should not be moved from January 1 to July 1, citing international practices that the period for wage adjustment needs to coincide with the start of a fiscal year (starting from January 1 to December 31 in case of Vietnam) for enterprises to set up their business plan.

“This is also the time for workers to negotiate wage policies with their employers, so moving the date to July 1 would be inconvenient for all parties involved,” stated the MoLISA.

The National Salary Council previously said it would not consider a rise in the region-based minimum wage in 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vietnam’s region-based minimum wage.

According to the MoLISA, a wage rise at a time of severe Covid-19 impacts would affect workers’ job security, not yet mentioning the majority of enterprises are still struggling to keep business running.

With nearly 101,700 enterprises temporarily suspending operations in 2020, or nearly 8,500 enterprises leaving the market every month, an increase of nearly 14% year-on-year, “it would take a longer period for business and production activities to return to their pre-Covid-19 level,” stated the ministry.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate also surged to a decade-high of 2.48% last year, it noted, adding the average income per month stood at VND6.62 million (US$287.21), down VND75,000 (US$3.25) against last year, despite higher region-based minimum wage of over 5% compared to 2019.

“This implies a rise in minimum wage would not lead to higher income for workers,” added the MoLISA.

The MoLISA stated the current minimum wage is sufficient to meet the minimum living standards for locals, while uncertainties surrounding the Covid-19 situation around the world make it hard to predict the exact level of economic impacts to the country from now until the end of 2021.

“Therefore, a no-rise in minimum wage would create conditions for enterprises to recover and workers to keep their jobs,” it said.

The region-based minimum wage is applicable for non-state employees, while a four salary- regions reflect the difference in economic development of the urban and rural areas.

Vietnam to start Covid-19 inoculation next Monday: health minister

March 5, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

The move came following Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s order , requiring the poor, families under preferential treatment and some prioritized groups approved by the government to be inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine quickly.

The first batch of 30 million vaccines Vietnam ordered from AstraZeneca arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on a flight from Seoul last Wednesday. After working with South Korea to evaluate the quality of the batch, the health ministry said the vaccine is eligible for inoculation, Long told a Friday meeting.

On Saturday, the ministry will host a conference on the implementation of large-scale vaccination, nationwide training on receiving, using and preserving vaccines, as well as handling post-vaccination complications.

Two days later, those directly treating Covid-19 patients at 18 medical facilities and prioritized categories of people in 13 pandemic-hit localities, with Covid-19 epicenter Hai Duong given the highest priority, will be among the first to be vaccinated.

In April, Vietnam would receive an additional 1.3 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through Covax, a global mechanism for developing, manufacturing and procuring Covid-19 vaccines and supply for member countries.

Long said the vaccination does not guarantee 100 percent immunity against Covid-19.

According to AstraZeneca, the vaccine is 76 percent effective, with the second shot measured at 81 percent.

Therefore, Long stressed everyone continues complying with pandemic prevention measures.

Earlier, the government had approved a list of prioritized groups to be vaccinated against Covid-19, which included frontline medical workers, military, and police forces.

Others in the priority list are teachers, diplomatic personnel, customs and immigration officers, those working in essential services like transport, people aged 65 and above, and those with chronic diseases that make them more vulnerable to the disease.

Those seeking to study or work abroad or are living in pandemic-hit areas are also listed.

While the production of domestic vaccines is underway, the government has speeded up foreign procurement to inoculate prioritized groups.

The government has said it is stepping up negotiations with vaccine manufacturers in the U.S., Russia and some other countries to ensure it could obtain a total 150 million doses to cover 70 percent of its population.

It has also approved the use of Moderna and Sputnik V vaccines.

Vietnam, a country of 98 million people, has reported 879 community transmissions in 13 cities and provinces during the ongoing outbreak that returned to the country on Jan. 28 after a 55-day clean streak.

The two missile defense vessels of Vietnam will compete in the “Sea Cup” with four categories, including Marine skills, fighting against sinking at the onshore training facility, usage of salvage vehicles, and artillery fire tests.

015 Tran Hung Dao and 016 Quang Trung are two missile defense vessels built by Russia under Project 11661E “Gepard”. They have been employed by Brigade 162 of the Vietnam People’s Navy since February 2018.

The ship is equipped with many modern weapons manufactured by Russia under a contract signed with the Vietnam Navy, in order to build up a regular naval force, and improve the capacity to protect the sea and islands of the country.

The Vietnamese Gepard-class defense vessels are stealthy, able to track, search and destroy surface ships and submarines. At the same time, they can perform missions of air defense, escorts, and patrol to protect the territorial sea and exclusive economic zone independently or operate in teams.

Army Games 2021 is expected to take place from August 22 to September 4 with 34 categories, which will be held in many different countries. Vietnam will host rescue and sniper competitions.

During the 2020 International Army Games, Vietnam’s tank team triumphed at the final race of tank crews of the second division in the Tank Biathlon event.

The International Army Games is an annual military sports event organized by the Ministry of Defense of Russia. The event, which was first staged in August 2015, involves close to 30 countries taking part in dozens of competitions over two weeks to prove which is the most skilled.

HÀ NỘI — Vaccinations using the recently-imported AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine are expected to start on Monday, Minister of Health Nguyễn Thanh Long informed a meeting of the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Friday.

The first batch comprising over 117,600 doses of the vaccine manufactured in the Republic of Korea (RoK), arrived in Việt Nam on February 24 . After holding working sessions with the producer, Việt Nam has obtained an accreditation certificate for the batch from the RoK.

Long said the doses, verified by the ministry, met the conditions for vaccination in Việt Nam.

On Saturday, the health minister will chair a conference to launch the vaccination plan and provide training for medical staff nationwide in the use and storage of the vaccine, as well as the handling of post-injection complications.

According to the official, priority for vaccination will be given to people at the front line of the fight against COVID-19, including health, army, police, customs and immigration personnel; those working in sectors offering essential services like aviation, transport, tourism and education; people with chronic illnesses or above 65 years old; those living in pandemic-hit areas; the poor and beneficiaries of social welfare.

Those who get the shots will be monitored via digital health records and receive e-certificates for their completion of inoculation.

Five million doses of vaccines, mostly manufactured by AstraZeneca, are expected to be provided to Việt Nam this year through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility programme conducted by the World Health Organization, GAVI, UNICEF and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).

Another 25 million doses under this initiative are slated to arrive in Việt Nam next year.

At the meeting of the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam said the safety of the vaccination programme should be ensured at the highest level as a task of utmost importance.

“The mass vaccination might have incidents. If we don’t prepare well, the incidents will turn into serious ones,” he told the meeting.

He urged for accelerating the research and production of locally-made vaccines, saying “the process must follow all of the requested steps but must be completed as soon as possible”.

Việt Nam has three local vaccine candidates, one of which has finished the first trial phase with good results and is in the second phase. The other two will enter human trials in the near future.

“If Việt Nam can successfully develop domestic vaccines, we can have enough stocks for the population of 100 million people. According to preliminary information, the COVID-19 vaccine only produces antibodies for a certain time. It is likely that the vaccines must be injected repeatedly every year. This is also an opportunity for Việt Nam’s vaccine study capacity to reach a new level in order to prepare and respond to other diseases that may occur in the future.”

“Vaccines are a long-term solution to control the pandemic globally in six months to one year. In spite of that, we must still strictly follow preventive measures as we have done,” he said.

Đam urged people to maintain their vigilance and asked schools, healthcare facilities, markets, supermarkets and hotels to self assess their safety level and update it on a COVID-19 safety map at antoancovid.vn .

Venues that fail to update the safety level will have their activities suspended, he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister tasked the health ministry, the ministries of foreign affairs, culture, sports and tourism with mapping out plans and creating conditions for those who have been vaccinated in other countries to enter Việt Nam in the coming time while still ensuring safety. — VNS
