VGP - The southernmost province of Ca Mau is striving to make a seafood output of 380,000 tons and seafood export turnovers of US$1 billion in 2013. Ca Mau reaped a seafood output of 35,000 tons in January, up 3% against last January, including aquaculture output of 22,000 tons, up 5%. It gained seafood export turnovers of nearly US$60 million, surging 16%, the highest rate in the last 5 years. This year, Ca Mau is boosting aquaculture of white-legged shrimps and prawns on an industrial scale. It currently has 5,000 ha of large-scale shrimp and prawn raising farms with an average productivity of 5 tons per hectare. The productivity of white-legged shrimps is 8 tons per hectare. Facebook announced on Monday that it will acquire popular photo-sharing app maker Instagram for about 1 billion U.S. dollars. According to the company's press release, the acquisition is "approximately 1 billion dollars in a combination of cash and shares of Facebook," and is expected to close later this quarter. Facebook Chief Executive Officer and founder Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement in a Facebook blog post which has had more than 80,000 "likes." In the blog, Zuckerberg noted Instagram will remain independent while working closely with Facebook to offer best sharing experience for users. The Spanish treasury on Thursday successfully sold treasury bonds worth 2.1 billion euros (2.65 billion U.S. dollars) on the market. Meanwhile, 638 million euros worth of two-year bonds lifespan fetched an interest rate of 4.335 percent, compared to 3.463 percent at the previous auction. The remaining 825 million euros four-year bonds sold for an interest of 5.353 percent, slightly above their rate of 4.319 percent in April. Thursday's bond issue was seen as a test of the country's credibility after Spain's banking system was rocked by a series of crisis including its fourth largest bank Bankia being part-nationalized and asking for a 19-billion-euro bailout. The prospect of a possible EU bailout for Spain created uncertainty at the start of the week, despite the Spanish government reiterating they were not planning to approach European rescue funds for help. The number of smartphones in use in the world has risen to over 1 billion, 16 years after they were first put into market, report from Strategy Analytics showed on Wednesday. According to the third quarter figures released by the research firm, the number of smartphones in use increased by around 330 million from the third quarter of 2011 and by 79 million from the second quarter of this year. Executive Director at Strategics Analytics Neil Mawston said one in seven people in the world now has a smartphone. Mawston pointed out that there will be more smartphone penetration in the future because of the "huge scope for future growth, particularly in emerging markets such as China, India and Africa." Intel Corporation, the world’s largest semiconductor chip maker, will open its 1 billion USD chip assembly and testing facility in Vietnam by the end of this month, an executive said. Intel’s investment in Vietnam is aimed at tapping growth opportunities in emerging Asia , Navin Shenoy, Intel’s general manager for Asia-Pacific, was quoted by The Wall Street Journal as saying on Oct. 14. "We expect Asia ’s PC market to continue to grow by more than 20 percent annually in the next few years. We definitely will continue to invest in Asia where we see growth," he said. Intel Corp., the first major foreign investor in high technology in Vietnam, started construction of the Vietnam facility in 2007, and 4,000 people are expected to employ for the plant, according to the paper.
