Vietnam wants to learn from the experience of developed countries, including the U.K., in developing a financial center, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue told the Acting Mayor of the City of London Peter Estlin. He noted that the city of London was one of the biggest financial centers in the world. Hue met Estlin during his June 28-30 official visit to the U.K. Estlin said the U.K. was willing to partner with Vietnam at different levels, including developing a financial market and improving its business credit rating to grow the bond market. GPS collars to be used on wild elephants in Dak Lak
GPS collars will be fitted to 28 wild elephants in the Yok Don National Park in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, a workshop heard on June 29. The workshop was held by the World Wide Fund for Nature Vietnam and the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the city of Buon Ma Thuot to consult relevant parties on the project. Experts said the collars will allow rangers from the provincial centre for elephant conservation, animal rescue and forest protection and the Yok Don National Park to track the location of the elephants and predict their movements in an attempt to prevent conflicts with humans. It is the first time GPS collars for elephants have been used in Vietnam, they said, adding that it is critical for the project to receive help from experienced foreign experts as well as technical and financial support from the World Wide Fund for Nature and Animals Asia Foundation. In detail, decision No.760/QĐ-CTN signed by State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc noted that Colonel Bui Van Nhien, a non-commissioned officer of the Political Department of Factory Z195 under the General Department of Defense Industry, was posthumously conferred with the Bravery Order for his self-sacrificing act to save a drowning child. Previously, on June 26, while on vacation in Phu Quoc, Kien Giang province, Colonel Nhien heard a call for help as a child was drowning in the waters near the Restaurant Sonasea. Without hesitation, he promptly jumped into the sea to save the victim with the support of rescue staff. Unfortunately, after taking the victim ashore safely, Colonel Nhien showed signs of exhaustion. Although being given first aid, he died on the same day.
