Vietnam 19th best country in the world for expats: HSBC survey
With an average annual income of $90,408, nine out of 10 expats said in Vietnam they are as happy as or happier than at home, according to the 11th annual Expat Explorer issued by HSBC on Wednesday. Foreigners enjoy working in Vietnam for many benefits: 55 percent of respondents said they take more holidays, 41 percent live in a better home and 39 percent have more household staff compared to their home country. Fifty-seven percent said their employment contracts include an annual allowance to fly home or to another place, higher than the global average of 17 percent. Forty-two percent get an accommodation allowance while the global average is 18 percent, and 73 percent receive health and medical allowances compared to 43 percent elsewhere. Vietnam ranks first in the world with 72 percent saying moving to Vietnam helps them save more and 72 percent also saying they have more disposable income than they did in their home country. Hoi An shines in Travel and Leisure’s 15 best cities in the world list 2018
Travel and Leisure has announced its annual 2018 list of the world’s best cities and Vietnam’s Hoi An is on it. Hoi An in Quang Nam province has been ranked eighth among the 15 most thrilling destinations in the world, released by the Travel and Leisure, a US travel magazine based in New York City. The survey is based on the responses of Travel and Leisure readers about architecture, distinctive restaurants, a rich array of cultural offerings, a intriguing shops, a teeming street life, a friendly population, etc. In 2018, Mexico reigns supreme. For the second year in a row, San Miguel de Allende, a colonial oasis in the country’s central highlands, takes the first place. Meanwhile, Oaxaca has climbed to the second place, and Mexico City is making a welcome return to the top 15. When it comes to a sandwich, which is best? Are you a BLT kind of guy? Or perhaps cheese and tomato is more your thing? Over in Hoi An there’s only one place to go when it comes to a tasty snack and that’s Banh Mi Phuong. Six years ago, the late chef Anthony Bourdain popped in and described his banh mi as a ‘symphony in a sandwich’ – and it seems food lovers the world over took note. His critique has done the store no harm at all and business has boomed since that day. There are now as many customers coming for selfies as they are for sandwiches.
